11/4/08 - 8:45pm - CVICU

This will be our home for a little while as Kayleigh recovers. I asked the question a million times tonight and I feel like every time I asked it, I got the same truthful answer. I wanted to know if the nurses, doctors or RNs were satisfied with her prognosis right now and the answer was always yes. In fact, it was a wide eyed yes whenever I would ask. It just makes me feel comfortable to know Kayleigh is doing good, or better than expected because she looks like she got hit by a truck.

When Aimee and I walked in the room, all I could do was stay strong for her because Aimee was having a tough time. This was a really scary scene to witness. Not only was it really graphic, but it was our sweet Kayleigh. She is our precious daughter and no one should ever have to see their child so swollen and bloody with their chest cavity wide open as her heart beating a million miles an hour on the other end of a green gauze pad. Did I paint a good enough picture for you? The photos will always be a bad reminder and after long deliberation and talking with the nurses, we felt like we shouldn't post the graphic photos. Kayleigh should be remembered looking so darn cute. The ones I have added below are tough enough to look at. If you thought there were a lot of wires in the NICU, you've got another thing coming.

There are three times as many monitors and three times as many bells going off. Right now since Kayleigh is doing great, we are not hearing any bells. We hope and pray to keep it that way. So far, everything I mentioned before is still the case, so I was able to relay the prognosis correctly. Aimee and I are staying really positive right now. As every hours passes, that is one less hour that she is critical. Let's continue to pray a lot that she will stay on this path to recovery and come out with flying colors. They don't expect babies to do this well, and certainly not babies Kayleigh's size. But, we are talking about Kayleigh here and she is no where near the ordinary, if you haven't learned that yet.

It is early, but Aimee and I are going to get some sleep. We will post as soon as we can tomorrow to let you know how her first evening was. I wish you all a wonderful day tomorrow and thank you so much for the support through such a tough day today. It gave us the strength to stay positive and God definitely heard every single one of your prayers.

Thank you and God Bless!!!

Glad to hear Kayleigh is somewhat settled in the CVICU. So sorry you had to see her in that state, that is very difficult. But from an outsiders point of view, she actually looks like she is resting quite comfortably from the pictures and the look in her eyes seems to be looking at you, her awesome and faithful parents :) Rest up tonight, we've all got the prayers covered :)

NO child should ever have to go through this kind of thing. I know how you feel. I have been there too many times. Seeing my childs heart beat through her chest. Its bittersweet, bc as she gets better, you will look back and smile and say, man, what a miracle. What she has been through. I find myself doing that all the time. My prayers are with you guys...

As I drove to work this morning, I looked at the clock in my van and saw 7:37, so I said a prayer right then and there (along with a bunch of other people, I'm sure). Your blog was the first thing I checked when I got home this evening. I'm so happy that Kayleigh has come through her surgery with flying colors...I just knew she would. Father God, thank you so much for guiding the surgeon's hands today and for being with Kayleigh and her family. Now we ask for continued healing and recovery so that your precious child can come home to her loving family. In Jesus's name, Amen.

Many praises our wonderful Heavenly Father for such a successful surgery today. Kayleigh is still so beautiful through all the wires! Although it does have to be tough to see her in that condition. I couldn't even imagine. She (and you) had a rough, but very successful day. Everyone needs to get some rest. God will continue to guide you and sweet baby Kayleigh through this journey. Take the recovery an hour at a time. She'll be out of the critical period before you know it. Still saying prayers for you here. I'll check back for the evening update in the morning. God bless!

With the wires and the tubes and the swollen body, your daughter is still so beautiful! How long did it end up taking to do her surgery & did she have any complications during the surgery? I sure hope not! She is still in our prayers and I am so thankful that you, Adam, & your wife Aimee are so faithful, strong, and loving! Not to mention amazing parents!!! I agree with you that NO ONE should have to see what y'all are having to see with your daughter. But if that's what their child is going through, I'm sure no one would turn down the chance to see their child. When my preemie had a feeding tube and all the other wires connected to her, I refused to look at her, went back to my hospital room, then realized that she was mine and I am going to be there for her no matter what so I walked back down to the nursery and held her hand and rubbed her head and just watched her for hours! God bless you and your family and please continue to stay strong for you, Aimee, Kayleigh, and the rest of your family, friends, and everyone else who is following the story of your miracle. Good night!

I love having a window to her heart. WWWWWHHHHHHSSSSSSSSS there I just blew out a breeze of love to her and I hope her heart will be filled with all the love of God and her family and all of her prayer worriers so she has no room for any pain or hate. I love the fact that her heart is beating and the window is a huge reminder that God has brought her way further then any one ever thought she would come. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! God for that beating heart! Thank You God for every wire Kayleigh has so you can use your team of Angels to help Kayleigh if she has trouble. Thank You God for the Great Surgery Team that did a awesome job today for us.
She is absolutely Beautiful! Please God help Kayleigh to heal and help her lunges to develop and get all the blood they need so she can climb mountains and see the amazing world you created for her to do your will.AMEN!

I am amazed at the strength and beauty of your sweet little girl, as well as both you and Aimee. I have been thinking and praying for Kayleigh the past few days, and especially today. I will continue to pray that everything goes as well as her latest surgery. She will amaze everyone, yet again, and overcome this bump in the road. She will be at home in her own crib in her own private room before you know it.

So glad things are going smoothly. She's such a strong fighter! I'm so proud of her and you guys as well. I know she's resting well but I do say looking at the pics make me so sad. It's sad that someone has to go through this especially so small and young. But Kayleigh is a trooper and will pukk through just every other thing she has faced. And with Christ on her side she will be unstopable!!!!!
You all are still in my continued thoughts and prayers!

In Christ,
Rachel

Aimee and Adam,
You are amazing parents. Your love for your Lord and your baby shines through each picture and each post. Your sweet Kayleigh is an amazing fighter and has come through so much. Aimee, I remember your first post on BBC about your fears and problems with Kayleigh. I prayed so hard for you that day. I prayed for all three of you. And since then, I have prayed daily for your strength.
I know it is so hard to see your daughter the way you did. But how amazing is it that she made it through and is fighting. How amazing that our Godd held here tightly through such a difficult surgery, loving on her and loving on you, so she would spend many more days with you. Keep your hope strong. She needs you. And I know you both need her.
Praying for you,
Hillary

Thank God for prayers answered - will continue to pray for all of you - she is a miracle - showing so many that there really is a God - no way could a little 1lb baby go through so much and someone not believe there is a higher power with a hand in all of this - thank God for all the technology taking care of your daughter now - hope the week goes well and she recovers as smoothly as possible - many warm thoughts for you and your wife to take each moment with her - and enjoy your miracle child!

Stay strong, you are doing exactly what Kayleigh needs love, support and to hear her mommy and daddy. Thoughts and prayers will continue, get some needed rest.

Aimee and Adam, I only just came across your blog today (redirected from CFhusband Nate) - what an amazing story you have, you and Kayleigh.
I was born a preemie myself, although nowhere near as small as your little girl. I was 29 weeks, weighed about 1100 g (just over 2 pounds). Now that was 25 years ago, and I'm still here, happier than ever, and with only a bad balance and tons of little scars on my fingers, toes and the inside of my elbows to give my start as a preemie away.
I am telling you this to give you hope. Kayleigh, hang in there, little sister.

I feel so sad when I see the tubes and wires coming from her. Then I think of how lovely she will look when shes all done being put through all of this. Good luck to the both of you! I hope she is at peace through these painful/difficult moments!
