4/9/09 - "Thoughtful Thursday"

Before I kick of this weeks Thoughtful Thursday, I wanted to give you an update on sweet Kayleigh.

Our visit today was extra special and Kayleigh seemed to be in high spirits. After watching her sleep the whole visit yesterday, it was great to see her awake and batting at her play toys. Yes! She was grabbing at the toys hanging from her "clothes line" that streams across her bed. She has a rattle she especially loves where she will swipe at it or grab and try to shove in her mouth. It was beyond cute to watch her interact with it and such a blessing to prove even a bigger point that she sees her toys clear enough to locate with her hands.

Some of the other tests have come back and it seems they want to chalk all this drama up to be a cold that she came down with. Honestly, with all the pollen going around and Charlotte, NC being a hotbed for dust and allergens, I wouldn't doubt it if the issues were caused by a several allergy attack. It seems that several nurses, family members and even myself had intense diarrhea of the nose sneeze fests this past weekend. I can only pray that is what threw Kayleigh in to a tiffy.

Good news is the doctors felt Kayleigh was in a better position to start her feeds up, but they will be starting slow and build up from there. The news is, we will be waiting until next week to do any type of surgeries in case this cold/allergy issue surfaces again.

The great news is she is showing quick signs of improvement and not heading in a wrong direction anymore. I am not going to jinx it anymore because it has not been working for me, so I am going to just say it this way; If Kayleigh has surgery sometime this year and can come home before I wind up where she is of old age, I will be more excited than a child on Christmas morning.

Thank you all for the prayers and let's keep them flowing stronger than ever.

This has been on very crazy week for the Freeman family and we are happy to share our sixth "Thoughtful Thursday" event with you. We will be doing this every week and we would love for everyone to join in and do something nice for someone out there.

Okay, here is how our "Thoughtful Thursday" works.

You all are going to go out in to this crazy world and do something EXTRA nice for someone else. You can do something nice for someone you love, someone you don't love, or someone you you have never had the chance to love and come back here to share about it each and every Thursday.

God has shown Himself through Kayleigh and we need to glorify Him in all that we do. We need to touch other people with our kindness and spread the love of God with Kayleigh's story to everyone we possibly can. When you deliver your good deed to someone, let them know that they were touched by Kayleigh and share her website with them, so they too can join in on Kayleigh's journey and our "Thoughtful Thursdays" to glorify God.

This week, I want to spotlight Kerren all the way from South Africa. Her Rambling of My Life blog is great and she is doing a special Thoughtful Thursday for Brandon and Allyson. Since South Africa is such a distant location from where we are, Kerren is putting together a care-package full of artifacts about her country and city for Brandon and Allyson to learn/educate them more about where some of Kayleigh's blog followers come from. I thought it was a very sweet idea and such a kind gesture that will share just how special Brandon and Allyson are to so many too. Click Here to see her blog and read her post.

NOW...You you have got to think outside the box and come back and share it with us and the world. Be creative and make your stories stand out. You never know, your story may be in the spotlight for ALL to see.

Here's how you get your link on our blog for "Thoughtful Thursdays"

Glad to hear Kayleigh is doing better today!!! I have been meaning to ask about her eyesight, so thanks for bringing that up!

I am curious what is the longest stay by a baby in the NICU at the hospital you are at? I know you guys are coming up on 10 months and I HOPE that you don't spend her first birthday in there, but I am curious what that timeframe is?

I will keep praying for you to take your sweet baby Kayleigh home.

Hang in there Kaleigh! That is great news that the cause of all this recent drama may have been as simple as allergies or a cold.

I am so glad to see that things are turning around this week. We pray for your family all the time. We lost our daughter a year ago, she was born premature and had no chance of living...I am glad to see Kaleigh fight for all those who didn't have the chance!

I am so happy to read that our little girl is doing so much better.. I have really been worried about her! To read that she is playing and reaching for her toys really warmed my heart! Go baby girl go!

Thanks so much for highlighting my blog this week - I have been expereincing connection problems (welcome to Africa!) and so have not been online much this week, but when I finally got on to my blog last night and saw how many hits I have had in the past 24hours I couldn't understand why...lol.. then I read Aurbreys email to me..:)

The children's package should be halfway to you by now.. hopefully you will have it before next weekend!

Thanks again for highlighting me...It gave me such a feeling of WOW that you have so much on your plate, but you still take the time to do things for others.

I look foward to reading all your "Kayleigh is better" posts!

Hello All,

Here are a few answers to the questions you asked in the comments...

Annonymous - I am not sure what the longest stay is for a baby in our NICU, but I do know there was one baby who passes away shortly after we got there and we had birthday cake with her family. Kayleigh is the oldest one there now with two others, which are Kayleigh's neighbors, who are 2 months behind us. They are keeping all the old babies close together.

Elteescat - Actually, there are less germs and possibilities for infections at home, so the quicker we get home, the less chance of her getting sick again.

Phyllis - Aimee stopped pumping a little while ago. After three bouts of Mastitis and a few other complications you don't want me to mention, she felt it was time to stop. However, we are running in to a problem in the near future. Aimee might need to start again because Kayleigh is getting lower on her supply. Right now they are fortifying her breast milk, so her supply is not going away fast, but if breast milk is all that Kayleigh can tolerate, we may be up against another monster.

I hope I answered all the questions. I wish you all a wonderful Easter.

God Bless,

Adam

Adam,
Would love to see an Easter video of Kayleigh!!! How are Brandon and Allyson doing? How is your new job? How is Aimee's Grave's disease?

I hope this Easter season renews hope for you and your family-- praying for God's will to be done with Miss Kayleigh!

Kara -

I would love to do a video too, but my computer is acting up with uploading videos, so I am on hold with that right now :(

Brandon and Allyson are doing great. They went to Atlanta to be with their Dad this spring break and he is taking them to see Monday Night Raw, which is a professional wreslting show that Brandon just loves to death. They are going to have a great time.

The new job is going good. It will take some time to build up, but things are moving in the right direction. I am also working to start pressure washing too to make some extra cash to hopefully cover either the insurance or car. Anything will help right now, so after the pressure washer is fixed and flyers go out, I should be on my way.

Aimee's graves disease has leveled out, I guess. Every now and then, she will get really winded and her heart will beat out of her chest. She is taking medication for it right now and they want her to do this surger to evaporate her thyroid, but the problem with that is she will not be able to be around anyone for a week or so. With work and Kayleigh, that is hard to schedule for. We are just praying that we will find a window of opportunity to get the procedure done and we will.

Thank you for your prayers and we wish you well on this Happy Easter.

God Bless,

Adam

I read about the breast milk issue. Have you thought of maybe using the milk bank? i'm not sure if your NICU offers it or not, but it may be an option if Aimee keeps having issues. Breast feeding is hard enough with out any complications. I feel for you Aimee!

Adam said...

Hawkins - We have thought about the milk bank, but from what I heard it is very expensive and we just can't afford to do that. I could be wrong, but we have looked in to someone donating milk until we found out that purifying it would cost $4.75 an ounce and Kayleigh eats 2 ounces every three hours continuous. That adds up and it is something our family can not do. If we get to that point, we will worry about what is the best option. Aimee may pump again or we may figure another possible diet that would work best for Kayleigh. Great questions though :)

God Bless,

Adam
