8/20/08 - Here's a couple laughs!!!

Have you ever seen "The Simpsons"? If so, then you must certainly know Maggie. Kayleigh gave us all a great impression of Maggie tonight while I held her. I thought she would spit out the paci if I didn't hold it in for her, but that wasn't the case and she gave us a good laugh in the mean time. The video is short, but enjoy.

Kayleigh had another great day today. There was not much difference than yesterday other than her feeds were increased to 5ml. She is continuing to breath very well and is starting to hold her temperature much better when we have her out of her isolette for a while. That is one the "musts" to get over to progressive care. She has still not pooped yet, but is showing signs of trying. Her face will turn beat red and even pass some gas, but nothing other than that. Maybe tomorrow, we will push for a suppository to help move things along.

Other than that, it was a pretty quiet day with Kayleigh. If you want to catch another great laugh, check out Brandon's blog - http://www.brandonsundblade.blogspot.com/ where you will see that I got a little clipper happy. I fixed Brandon's mohawk since school is starting soon and thought that I would be a cool Step Dad and do mine too. My goal was to shave it completely, but not without a little fun. I ended up going to the hospital with Kayleigh like this and we both got many compliments. Even though it was rebellious to have my hair like that, I am pleased to say that I shaved it off a couple hours ago :)

I wish everyone a wonderful day and thank you all for your support and prayers.

God Bless,

The Freemans :)

I am from Sioux Falls South Dakota and I happened to stumble upon your page last night. We have had 2 premature babies. One (Jack) was born at 27 weeks with down syndrom and hydrops and he unfortanately didn't make it more than 20 hours. 6 months later I got pregnant with our 2nd son Noah he was born at 32 weeks weighing in at 3lbs. 3 oz. He was in the NICU for 40 stressful days. I understand what you are going through and I want you to know that I am praying for you daily. What a sweet heart Kayleigh is she is just beautiful. You and your wife seem like amazing people. Just know that you have blessings and prayers coming from us. Good Luck. I can't wait to see the pictures of Kayleigh going home, and don't worry she will.

just wanted to send you and Aimee a message of hope regarding baby Kayleigh.

I was born 3 1/2 months early and weighed 2 lbs. 5 oz. and was 13 inches long. I am now 28 years old, and I have been healthier then both my brother and sister. The doctor's know a lot more now then what they knew in 1980. I can tell from reading the blog and looking at Kayleigh's pictures that she is a survivor. She will be in her crib at home in no time.

My dad was born 3 months early and weighed 2 lb.s 8 oz. Back in 1948, the doctor's didn't do much, because they didn't know how to help preemies. They gave him to my grandmother and told her "don't get attached, he's going to die." My dad had all of the preemie sicknesses (asthma, breathing problems, etc) up until he was 5 years of age, and then they all stopped. My dad is now 60 years old and doing great!

One of my favorite sayings, which my mom put on a shirt for me is "I might be little, but God's not finished with me yet." My prayers are with you and your family.

Hi Adam :

Just a suggestion. Instaed of increasing kayleighs feeds every other day. Can the nurses increase it gradually like after say 2-3 days. Making sure she can really tolerate that much amount.

Regards
Your well wisher

Hey there :) You know, that is a very good question. The amount of food that she is getting really isn't all that much right now. It doesn't become overbearing until the feeds get up to 13-15ml and she is only at 4ml. They said if her bowel sounds are good, then it is a matter of time before she poops it out. If she can't poop it on her own, they will need to help with medication. If that doesn't work, then they will have to change the food again and start from sqaure one like they did this last time. They might not know if the food is the issue if they take 3 days to increase, plus the clock is ticking with her heart issue. If we don't find the right combination, then we can't get to that 2000 gram mark to have the surgery to close her VSD. I don't want to say anymore as I am trying to stay as positive as possible, but things could go south quickly if her heart starts to fail and they can't fix it. So all of your prayers are needed more than ever to make sure this food combination works. Really good question and I hope I answered it okay :)

With Love,

Your little girl is a joy. I love checking in on her and I LOVE the pic with her in the sunglasses. It put a smile on my face. Every day I think about Kayleigh and I pray for her/your family. I can tell that you are so proud of her as you should be. She is a beautiful girl and such a fighter. God bless you and your family.

Unsolicitated advice...I know that I read that Aimee was pumping milk for Kayleigh. If she is still pumping, have her check with her doc to make sure that her diet/workout program are not too much. I would hate to see her lose her milk supply with all of the work that she had to do to get it going in the first place.
