8/9/08 - Quiet Day

Today was a pretty quiet day all day long. The nurses said she was sleeping most of the day. Being that it is her first day over in the corner where it is darker and there is less commotion going on, I bet helped her get some better rest. Some wonderful news is that Kayleigh did not have a desat all day today. She has been doing so wonderful with her breathing and it that takes so much of the worry away. You know she is doing well when she is sleeping peacefully without any apnea/desaturation issues.

They also desided to test her blood sugar only twice a day since she has been doing better with keeping her levels up. They still are keeping her on continuous feeds of formula though. Aimee got to hold her for an hour today and I was so worn out from a long day, that I took a nap in the cozy chair next to them. She grew some more last night and weighed in a 813 grams which is 1 pound 12.67 ounces. Other than that, Kayleigh is doing just great. There was no other exciting news, but no news is still great news.

It seems that whenever a problem comes about, I ask you all to pray about it. It means the world to me that everyone is reaching out to God to help because He is certainly helping our little girl. Some of these issues could easily take Kayleigh in a serious direction, but the doctors and nurses have attended each issue and they have been resolved very quickly. I just hope this continues to go as smooth as it has for the past week.

Thank you all for your help and being there for us. All your posts, whether you are commenting on Kayleigh or responding to an issue to guide us through the process, we appreciate it so much. Without all the people out there, we would be completely lost and there would be so much more stress piled on top of what is already there. I am so blessed to have all of you in our lives. We are forever greatful!!

I am so happy she is doing so well!!!! The Lord blesses us with doctors and nurses who have the knowledge to care for us. From the doctor who decided to keep Amy to each and everyone who has had contact with little Kayleigh. We are so truly blessed by God!!!! We never know what is around the corner but He does and is always there guiding our steps and the people we come in contact with. Your family has truly touched my life because I have been able to see you keep all your faith in our Holy Father even when things looked so dim. Your family is a blessing to so many people!!!!!!!

God Bless,

Hello Adam and Aimee,
I have been following your blog because my daughter was a preemie as well. (She is now 12!) I am so very happy that Kayleigh is doing so well. I would like to encourage you to do a little research about necrotizing entercolitis and the use of formula in preemies. "NEC" is basically an infection of the gut caused by the inability to digest formula, which is common in preemies. It is a devastating illness and usually requires removing part of the intestine. It is easily prevented by the use of breast milk in most cases. I realize that it's easier for the doctors to give formula because they can precisely calculate how much is needed to get Kayleigh to grow. I hope they have also shared the risks of using formula. There is a source of donor milk that has the calorie count available from the Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin. It would allow the doctors to determine caloric intake. I would encourage you to research NEC before accepting formula only for your daughter. What ever decision you make, at least it will be an informed one. I look forward to following your blog and watching Kayleigh grow!
Warmly,
Rachel's Mom

What an amazing journey your family has been on... I was captivated by your story tonight, cried some tears, and wonder why I am so stuck on the little obstacles in life. I have two boys, 2 and 8 mos., and a 16 year-old step-daughter, and my husband. Reading what you have been through is so emotional and I pray for Kayleigh. I have to tell you that the love e-mails really touched me... I wish I could say things like that to my husband! I can feel the love you have for one another, and I know that the love you share is felt by your family and friends (and strangers) and will guide you through this. God bless you!
