10/8/08 - NEW HOME!!!

NICU HOME
NPCN HOME

At 12:30 in the afternoon, Kayleigh was transferred from the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) to the NPCN (Neonatal Progressive Care Unit). We are just so stoked to have moved her to a newer and more private, upscale location. The photos above and my last night's post does all the talking about the difference in rooms, but it just means we are one step closer to going home.

Kayleigh has been so wonderful lately and she is continuing to show signs of progression. There has not been a longer time over the past 3 months where she has been doing so well consecutively. It seems that we are moving in the right direction and I am glad that we will not be doing the pulmonary cath for 2-3 more weeks. That way Kayleigh can continue to grow without any disruption.

I didn't post the weight last night, because I they didn't weigh her until the early morning. she weighed in at 1563 which is a little less than normal. Tonight's weight came in at 1475, but they blamed that drop on the different scales in NPCN. I don't know what it the true weight, so we will just see what tomorrow's weight is and go from there. I would hate to see that she is burning too many calories these past couple days. She did however grow 200 grams in the past week, which is unbelievable for Kayleigh's track record.

Kayleigh is still working hard at latching on to Aimee's breast, but we are improving a little bit each time. We have a consult tomorrow with a lactation nurse. They were talking about having Aimee use the a guard to help Kayleigh latch on. Hopefully that is the answer. We are really wanting Kayleigh to get the hang of things for bonding purposes, even though I don't think there will be a bonding issue when she realizes how bad we spoil her. ha!

Thank you all so much for your support as your prayers are certainly helping us make progress!

God Bless,

The Freemans :)

Hi there. I read your updates everyday and pray and hope that Kayleigh comes home soon!

I wanted to pass along some info regarding the latching on. Try a nipple shield. I am sure the LC that comes will recommend it. I had issues with my NICU baby latching on and this worked like a charm. I used it for maybe 2 weeks and then weaned him off.

All the best....

I personally don't think there will be any bonding issues between Aimee and Sweet Kayleigh!! My son didn't get a good latch until he was about 3 months old. 1 month adjusted age! I pumped and would give it to him in a bottle! Don't give up Aimee!! It will take time but the way Kayleigh is, one day she is going to amaze you and do it perfectly!! ;p

WOO HOO!!! YAY for Kayleigh!! One more step Kayleigh!! Out the door and to your home!! Best Wishes and God Bless!!

I have been reading your posts for a long time now. My daughter was born on June 9th, and I used a shield with her for 3 weeks til she got use to nursing. They work wonders.
Your daughter is amazing! She is one strong girl..and no baby is to spoiled and she is lucky to have parents like you and Aimee.

Hello. I actually found your blog from the Parent's photo contest. What a sweet story. I'm so glad our Heavenly Father has blessed your lives so much. I had chills when I read the older posts where the doctors didn't think she'd make it to term. How wonderful! She is just beautiful.

WOOOHOOOOO!!!! This is totally amazing. She looked so peaceful on the 7th.

Aimee, don't give up with the breastfeeding. You will get it and if not, well you know you can pump. The best thing for her is your milk and it doesn't matter how she gets it. I know you know this, but when I was bf and I failed at it, I had noone to help me with encouragement. (Nor did I know that there was pills to help with production.)

You guys are amazing and you and Kayleigh deserve to be happy.

I really hope that her weight loss is just the difference in scales. Keep us posted. I will check in on her in the morning (since I have to be at work at 5am) HAHA!!!
