11/5/08 - 10:00am - FANTASTIC!!!!!

As Aimee and I were were walking in to the CVICU this morning, we walked right past the night nurse who said Kayleigh was fantastic last night!!! She was so excited to share that news with us and we quickly thanked her, but she said "NO! Thank Kayleigh."

Kayleigh had an amazing evening. She has not swelled up like they thought she would and she actually looks very similar to when we left her last night. Her urinary output is still beyond perfect, so they are blown away with that. When we walked in the room, she was moving her hands around in the air and looking from side to side. I was not expecting that at all, but she seemed to be uncomfortably happy. She held our fingers and we rubbed her head. After a while, they did give her a little more pain medicine in case she was in any kind of pain.

The cool news is she was not desatting or having any hypertension issues when someone touches her. With the VSD being closed, it makes perfect sense that the blood flow won't shunt over to the wrong side anymore when the pressure change. The heart might work a little harder until the lung pressures comes down, but we can only pray that will happen a lot quicker than not.

I am actually sitting in her room right now while I type as they let us use our computers in here, which is bitter sweet! They are going to kick us out in a little while because they are planning on closing her chest back! THAT'S RIGHT!!! They feel like the swelling is not going to get any worse, so they are going to close the chest cavity breast plates and if the skin will attach also, they will close that too. If not, then that is okay and we will wait a little longer. When they close the chest, they have to monitor her for an hour to see how she reacts and if it is not good, then they will have to re-open. Anesthesia just came in so it might be happening right now. Woo hoo!
Well, I better run, but I will update you all soon on some hopefully more great news.

Thank you all and GOD BLESS! Keep those prayers coming.

What great news!! What a happy day!! Good job Kayleigh. My niece looked much the same after her heart surgery (she had the same surgery at 12 weeks--her pressures were off the charts). One by one, all the tubes and wires came out. I was there the day that my brother and his wife got to hold their baby finally--that moment will come before you know it for you guys! Take care of yourselves so that you can take care of Kayleigh.

I just saw a little shirt that reminded me of Kayleigh. It said
" I'm kind of a big deal, just in a smaller package " If anyone deserves to wear it, it's Kayleigh. Just had to share because it sure made me smile.
God Bless !

I love coming on here and seeing the great news. I was really sad to see her pictures though. You two are very strong and Kayleigh definitely inherited your strength. You are all amazing.

It is without question that I will continue to pray for her recovery and I can't wait to see her in that beautiful crib you have for her. :) :)

Go Kayleigh Go! Again, she's amazing people by moving faster then originally thought. That's truly the Lord and the power of prayer. If anyone has doubts how the good Lord works, they need to look at little Miss Kayleigh. An angel without wings, here on earth.

Can't wait for another good update. Stay strong Adam and Aimee. Give Kayleigh a big hug from the Hardin's.

Thank God! You both must be cloud nine. What wonderful morning for you. Kaleigh has so much going for her. Of course, her loving family, but, also, her wonderful medical team that has been caring for her since her birth. Although her strong will and adorable face has made it a little easier for them. I am absolutely thrilled for you Adam and Aimee! My family and I will continue to pray for Kaleighs recovery.

Thanks for keeping us updated. It has been wonderful to hear all the updates on Kayleigh. I dont believe anyone questioned whether that little girl would be a fighter through this surgery. We will keep praying for her!
