12/22/08 - Quiet and Peaceful Day

Today was a very quiet day for Kayleigh. There was not a whole lot that went on and she slept for most of the day. The only thing they worked on today was lowering her settings, so the high oxygen settings do not do any more damage to the lung tissue than they already have. She is down to the low 40's on the amount of oxygen she is getting, but her other settings (pressure) are still high. If we continue to progress some each day, she will hopefully be off the vent in a week or so.

We have not set a time or date as to when they will be doing the JG tube. The x-rays have shown improvement with her pneumonia day after day, so we are so happy to see that clearing up. She got another IV today to receive a blood transfusion due to low hemoglobin count. They had to put it in her head because all the other veins in her arms were taken and her legs have not been very plentiful with good sights.

Other than that, it was very quiet and we LOVE quiet!!! When Kayleigh has a good day, we all have a good day. If you can see me now. My head is still shaking back and forth in amazement as our God has shown us day in and day out how powerful He is and what a miracle He has blessed us with. Kayleigh is one tough cookie!!!

A lot of you were asking for an address, so Aimee and I planned on getting a PO box until the post office said it would take a couple days and it would cost an arm and a leg, so we just decided to use our home address. Please email if you would like to receive that addrress. Thank you so much for helping us make this Christmas as less stressful as possible to where we can enjoy our family time together and not have to deal with a huge weight on our shoulders. God Bless Every Single One Of You!!!! You all are amazing to us and we couldn't be more blessed.

Thank you SO MUCH!!! Kayleigh is 6 months old tomorrow!!! WOO HOO!!!

God Bless,

The Freemans ;)

Praying for your family and your sweet Kayleigh often. I have a baby girl (Katelyn) who is only about 3 weeks older than Kayleigh (born June 4th) and Kayleigh reminds me every day to be so very thankful for every minute I have with my baby girl. When I read about Kayleigh, I often have to pick up Katelyn and just hug her and kiss her sweet cheeks. Thank you for sharing and reminding all of us as parents to cherish each and every moment and to praise God for all of them! Blessings to you and your family this Christmas and always.

I'm so glad that Kayleigh is doing well today! Since I heard about her on BabyCenter from another mom, I have kept her in my daily prayers and check this blog a few times a day. I am in awe of the miracle that we are seeing right before our eyes. Happy 6 month birthday Kayleigh!!

You story really hits me close to home, as my son was born on July 14, exactly 3 weeks after Kayleigh was born.

Happy 1/2 year little sweetheart!
I worked as an RN in the CT-ICU many years, for adults, no pedi experience. I know that eventually a more permanent tube needs to be placed for feeds, however we did use longer tubes that passed through the gastric sphincter into the jejunum to decrease the risk of aspiration...it is not as effective as a tube placed through the skin, but this gets threaded through the nose, so no invasive procedures. Just wondering if she already has a nasojejunal tube already, or this might be a possibility?
Always thinking of our Kayleigh, and hoping you guys are getting some much needed rest!

I am thinking of you and your family and you will be in my prayers. Your daughter is truly a miracle and reminds us all that miracles do happen. God bless you and your family.

I found this blog a couple of days ago and have spent these few days reading from the beginning.

I will be praying for Kayleigh and you that she will be able to come home soon and grow up to be a beautiful young girl.

I have a little experience with this. My second daughter was born at 34 weeks. She spent 11 days in the special care nursery. It is a very scarey and trying experience. I can't imagine doing it for six months and having to face all the ups and downs you two have faced.

Merry Christmas and God bless.

I just spent about two hours reading your blog from start to finish.
I want you to know how touched I am by your story. You see, I know about much of what you're going through although on a smaller scale.
My son, Grady, was born perfectly healthy at 39 weeks. At 2 wks old he got bronchiolitis. Then at 7 wks old he stopped breathing and we began a 40+ days journey in our local children's hospital. He's been on the vent, had transfusions, had a PICC line and a central line, aspiration pneumonia, etc, etc, etc.
Your faith and the way you've been able to carry on through all of this is amazing. I remember people telling me that I "inspired" them when Grady was sick but at the time I was just in survival mode as I'm sure you both are too. You both look awesome, I must say, for the stress that you're under.
Anyway, Grady is now over a year old and doing well. I'll keep following your blog and praying for your beautiful daughter and your family.
God bless,
Mandy
