5/9/09 - Every Step Of The Way

Well, today didn't go as planned. We were hoping for another glorious visit with tons of photos and a lot of great moments, but unfortunately, Kayleigh was not feeling too great.

We are not sure if Kayleigh is not feeling well because of the weaning of her Flolan or if this is neurological problems. Last night's head measurement showed Kayleigh's head has swelled even more than the previous three nights (which showed no more swelling). She has been bearing down and turning red, with the occasional fast, heavy breathing that drops her sats a little.

Our fear is that Kayleigh may be experiencing some irritability and that is the last thing we want her to deal with, but if this is just caused by the weaning of her Flolan medication, then we should see some signs of improvement very soon as the doctors are currently taking action with the speed of the weaning process.

If this is neurological and may cause Kayleigh to be irritable or uncomfortable, we would have no choice but to let Kayleigh go in peace as this is God telling us it is time. We want to do what is best for Kayleigh and our family, and to make our decisions based out of faith and love, so we feel at peace with making the right decision. God has proven before and can still create a miracle at anytime. Listening to Him is the most important decision right now.

With hard days like these and even harder ones to come, there seems to be one or two people who brighten up our bad days with a smile. Or should I say in this case, it was a shout of laughter. Eva Fuller sent this awesome video over for Aimee and you all need to check it out: CLICK HERE

Here is some exciting news!!! If you have been with us for a while, you would have seen a post that I wrote about being on a television show that was quickly taken down. Well, it was taken down for secretive reasons by the producers, but now it is free rain to talk about it.

Wednesday, May 13th in the afternoon, "The Doctors" will be airing a full special on our family and the journey we have endured with Kayleigh in these unfortunate times, facing this horrible market we live in. It was more than a pleasure shooting here in Charlotte for the show, meeting some famous people while making the best out of our very quick (1 day) visit to Hollywood to shoot on the set. Check your TV Guide and make sure you set your TV to record it. Click here to see the preview for our show: The Doctors

Extra Extra, Read all about it!!! For all of you Charlotteans, Mark Washburn is writing a column about us tomorrow (Saturday) in the Charlotte Observer.

Many of you have been e-mailing me, asking if they can still get Kayleigh bracelets and I finally fixed the link over to the right. I apologize for not fixing it sooner, but I honestly didn't have the time to package and ship out boxes on my own with everything going on, so I just left it broken, sorry.

Soooo....a good friend, Rachel, decided to help us out with the bracelets and is going to be doing all the orders, packaging and shipping. God Bless Her!!! The proceeds are going to create an unbelievable scrap book filled with the photos you send in, page decorations, and a note if you wish to write one. Yes, you need to take a photo of you and your family wearing your bracelets and send it to me at (Adam@TeamFreemanProperties.com) so we can add it to the scrapbook. This will be special for us to have forever, to always remember all the wonderful people who supported us and prayed for us through this journey.

Look over to the right on the tool bar to get your Kayleigh bracelet.

Even with the sadness amongst us, God is continuing to help us share Kayleigh's story with the world. Whether it is on this blog, on television, newspapers, or even with sharing your bracelet stories, everyone needs to be filled with the faith, hope and love that our Lord has blessed us with. Our goal from the beginning was the help others with our story. We are doing it full force and we will continue to do this for the rest of our lives. We hope you are with us every step of the way.

God Bless,

QUESTION:
Why does Kayleigh have to be weaned off Flolan to come home? I thought you would have 24 hr nurses anyway that could manage the Flolan line. Did that change? Please let us know.

Kayleigh will be forever in my heart and my life will forver be changed because of her. Today for my son's Mother's Day celebration at school we read "Love you Forever" I read this book often to both my kids and I think all our blog family would agree the words ring so true for our baby Kayleigh as well. "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living my baby you'll be."
We love you Freeman Family you will always be in our thoughts. I will continue praying for a miracle as with God anything is possible.

You are absolutely beautiful. I feel blessed to have found your blog and lucky to be one of your many fans. You hold a special place in my heart. You and your family have taught many many people the power of love on so many different levels. When I see your beautiful pictures I can't help but want to hold you and hug you, who would want to do that...your adorable. You are one tough cookie and I (along with so many others...especially your mommy and daddy) are so proud of you and the strength you have. I hope that you are feeling alright and that you feel no pain...as a mommy with two babies who have been through rough, rough times I know how hard it is to see. I just want to let you know that I think you are perfect!!!

Again, you all continue to be in my thoughts. Have a great night baby girl. Sweet dreams.

With you from Oregon. From our family to yours we are in prayer continuely. We can't even match the pain and heartache that you are going through right now. I am so amazed at your strength and courage. May the peace of sweet Jesus carry you through this Journey. I never had said this before but your difficulty is bringing good out of this. For a loong time my husband and I had been away from God after suffering some severe complications with the birth of our third child. We walked away from church and God. When I first found out about Kayleigh in October I started sharing your family with my husband. We began to pray together and we also slowly began to start to trust again. We went to church for the first time in a long time. God is, and going to continue to use you. Thank You
God bless you,

What a precious angel she is, and we love her dearly. I pray that God continues to give you peace in the coming days with what decisions to make and when to step back. I imagine on top of the incredible difficulty of facing losing your daughter, it's also tough to open yourself up so vulnerably- knowing that there may be those who will criticize. I am so appreciative that you constantly let us in and allow us to share Kayleigh with you. Always praying!!

Praying for Kayleigh. Praying for you and your family. It was hard for me to wrap my mind around the words you typed tonight about possibly letting Kayleigh go peacefully to Heaven. I had a hard time reading that. I can't imagine being in your shoes. I can't imagine having to decide if my baby was in pain and there was no saving her to have to make such a hard choice. I pray that if it is God's will to take Kayleigh (which I hold out hope it is not yet!) Then if it is His will I pray He allows her to come to Him on her own so you don't have to make such a decision. I pray that she is not in pain and that it is the weaning of the meds that is making her react that way. I pray so hard that you get to take your baby out in the sun and lay her in the grass. Such little things I take for granted with my children on any given day. You have taught me to let them wiggle their toes in the grass and soak up the sun when it is shining. I am praying so hard for little Kayleigh to feel the sun in your arms.

God bless you and your family.

Just ordered a bracelet! :-D

I am just so heartsick at what this poor baby has gone through! For those of you who do not know, a Blood Gas is EXTREMELY painful.. for an adult. So, just imagine what it must be like for Kayleigh! And to have had over 200!!! Grown men even cry over a blood gas sometimes! She is so teeny tiny, it just kills me to think of the pain this poor baby has endured! And as a mother, it kills my heart to know the pain you have endured, watching it done to her.

You are an amazing family!! I know you probably now here that about a thousand times a day, but it is SO incredibly true!!!! We are behind you 110%! ;-) We love you and we are lifting you up to the Father.

~* Kayleigh~ precious child of God.. may the arms of Jesus remain around you for all eternity. While you are sleeping, or with Mommy and Daddy. May you feel His love shelter and surround you. You are beautiful and special and absolutely WONDERFUL. I have never seen you in person, or held you.. but I love you. Babies are the most precious and gentle gift from God, and you are one of His most special. My prayers are with you, sweet little One. *~

God really is able to bring you through the darkest of times and I forget that so easily. Thank you for sharing Kayleigh's story with us. I'm still praying for that miracle and hoping that we get another miracle post of her coming home HEALED!

Hello Adam and Aimee
I would like to make a suggestion. Between the scrap book idea and all the material you have written here on your blog, I believe you have a great opportunity to put together a book about your journey - even though the ending that God is writing for your story does not yet appear to be the one you had hoped for. Your faith will be a great inspiration for others going through what you have and still are going through. You have said that you would like to be able to give back in return for all you have gone through. So I would suggest if you can get a book contract you offer some percentage of the proceeds as a donation to a charity of your choice - or even to the PICU for equipment that is always being needed. Or for things you wished had been available for you while there.
I think you have so many people following your story that the opportunity to own a book of your story would be greatly appealing as well as knowing the price (or portion of) was also going to help others.
I hope you like this idea and are not offended by it!
love & blessings to you and yours
from me and mine!

I have followed your miracle story for a short while and am so blessed to see families like yours! You have treasured a life that was so tiny and what a miracle to see that Kayleigh was a child of God at such a tiny and fragile state. Like everyone else we wish the news after Kayleighs surgery was more happy news. Can the doctors not remove some of the swelling and pressure with an exterior shunt. Is the head circumference increasing due to the need for a shunt due to its recent trauma and possibly retaining cerebral spinal fluid. With the decreased brain function maybe this would make a permenant shunt necessary. Praying for comfort for Kayleigh and your family!

I have not given up and am praying to God everyday for little Kayleigh and for your family.

Have you contacted your local hospice? (Not because I've given up) They are wonderful people that will do everything in their power to get her out of the hospital and home to her family. They will verify her needs and make it happen at home. They also provide emotional support to the family (and have a great program for other young children involved). (They are also available in a hospital setting).

Oh- so sorry you didn't get to spend the day together... hoping today is a better day for you, Aimee and Kayleigh.

I have set the DVR and look forward to seeing you on the Doctors. I can't wait to see what they've done for you and whatever it is, you deserve it.

Oh man, the teaser on The Doctors is making me wish I wasn't going to be on vacation and not around a TV! i hope you post a link on here so I can watch it online.

I am praying for you still

I haven't commented in awhile, not because I'm not reading and praying...just don't know any words of comfort for you. I will continue to leave updates on Kayleigh on my blog and asking others to continue praying.

I just found your blog today and wanted to you let you know I am heartbroken and praying for Kayleigh, you and your family. I had a hard time reading about your precious little angel, and I can't imagine being in your shoes. If it is God's will to take Kayleigh I pray that she is not in pain and that you find the strength to endure such a loss. Such little things I take for granted with my children on any given day. You have taught me to let the kids play in the park for just a little longer, and I pray little Kayleigh gets to feel the sun too.

God bless you and your family.

My heart is heavy with sadness with all that is going on, but my faith continues to grow. That is the miracle of your baby girl.
The previews to The Doctors looks amazing and I am so excited to watch it Wednesday. I am amazed at how you were able to get asked on the show... again, God's amaziness, huh?
God Bless and thinking about you daily.

I wanted to tell all of you that someone said something to me the other day that really touched my heart. I was telling my SIL about Kayleigh and she said to me that God's plan for her was to teach everyone how to pray. Tear's filled my eyes, because I do not pray often, but since I started reading Kayleigh's story, I have prayed multiple times a day. God Bless the Freeman's and I will keep praying for you.

Keep holding on, and sing to her. When my son was in his coma and aggitated, I would sing to him in his good ear that he could still hear out of.. . it calmed him down when none of the meds would. He says now, "dont ever give up". Miracles happen* My thoughts and prayers are with you all, I know you are exhausted *

Hi! I'm not sure if you read comments this far down, but if you do...just wanted to say that I have been reading your blog for the past 9 months or so, and have been praying for your family- Kayleigh has touched my heart in a very special and deep way.

I gave birth to twin daughters, Vivian and Annemarie, last July. They were both stillborn due to Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Following your story has given me such hope and has really made my faith stronger.

Well- here is the interesting "coincidence"- my husband is a television editor and works occasionally on "The Doctors" (his main job is with Dancing With The Stars)... a few weeks ago, he came home and started telling me about how that night he had edited a piece about this little girl and how much it had touched his heart...and he went into the story...and I looked at him and said, "Are you talking about Kayleigh Freeman?" And he said "yes, how did you know that?" And I said, "because I read their blog every day, and in fact, just got done reading tonight's post"...it was a pretty incredible moment!

Your story really touched my husband's heart as he worked on editing the piece...and I can't wait to see the finished result!

Much love to you and I am praying for your whole family...

-Erika

i don't know what else to say to you except that when the time comes that you have the strength that you have now. You are an amazing family with amazing faith. I am blessed to "know" you and to be able to learn and grow from your experiences. I feel like you are a part of my family and its so hard to think that you have to let your precious miracle go in such a short time. But i know that it is a comfort to know that your daughter has made such an impact on millions across the world. Because of your miracle daughter, millions across this God given world have grown closer to HIM.
I can never tell or show you how much this has changed my life and how greatful i am to Kayleigh. Like you, she has given me something to look forward to in the after life. I can't wait to meet her there and tell her this myself. She has made me grow as a person. She has made me look at my own children a little longer. She has made me look at life a little clearer. This little angel has made me a better person. And that says a lot since i have never even met her.
i had someone say to me once that it may be my purpose in life to be the father or grandfather of someone who is great, and thats my contribution to this world. I think Kayleigh is that someone great, and your contribution is to share her story with the millions that follow her story and become better people. Be proud and greatful to be that person that gets to share her story. Be honored.

I love you like my own family

Adam & Aimee:

The blogfrog thread at Mckmama's site that I started a couple of weeks ago about Kayleigh has been "removed".

Today I updated it(which I do as you make new post)about the upcoming television show and told everyone to come over to your site to get the details....tonight I checked to see if anyone had responded and it has been removed so I thought it was a mistake and I reposted the information abut 20 minutes ago and the new thread I made was there and now it is GONE again????? What is up with that???

I really don't understand WHY MckMama would have taken this down considering you guys have her button on your blog and this thread has been there for 2 weeks?? I'm really sorry this has happened but I will continue to spread the word for prayers for your Beautiful Sweet Baby and I know many others that read that blog are praying for your family.

Keep the faith and we will continue to pray.........

I have an urgent prayer request. We just learned that a friend of the family who is 14 is ill and in hospital. At this time his kidneys are failing. Drs suspect a rare form of Ecoli that does not respond to treatment. Please can you share this with as many prayer lines as possible. He is a lovely boy and they are a lovely family!
Thank you in advance for your prayers. Please also pray for safety on the road as one of our family members try to get his sister home from NC to Tennessee ASAP.

My DVR is set also and I'm sure I will cry, a lot. I can't wait though to learn more about your journey and share in it. I have only been reading Kayleigh's story for about a week or so now but it has touched my heart greatly, especially having been in the NICU with two of my boys. I'm going to add a featured bloggers post on mine today about Kayleigh. Thanks for sharing her with all of us.

What is crazy is that as I was watching the previews I was thinking "that is so familiar to me". I had that disconnect of following you on the net, and then seeing you on tv.
