8/30/08 First Bottle

Today was a wonderful day as Kayleigh hit another milestone and took her very first bottle! Woo Hoo! It was the cutest thing I have ever seen as she was going to town on her paci and then we switched over to the bottle. The look on her face when something tasty came out was priceless. Her eyes widened up and she looked around as if she has hit the jackpot!

The funny part of the whole video is around the 5 minute mark where we investigated the bottle to see how much she took. As we were giving the bottle back to Kayleigh, she was out like a light. I guess all the excitement and sucking, she fell right asleep. It certainly gave us a great laugh.

We just checked in with the nurse and Kayleigh is doing great. She has only had one desat all night and it was in the 70's, which is great. She tolerated her feeds tonight and had no aspirate at all. We were very pleased with her recovery time and the way she has been acting the past two days. She is just full of energy as today she was practically lifting her head off the bed when she was lying on her tummy. She is getting strong! She weighed in at 1070 grams, which is 2.6 pounds.

We can't wait until tomorrow to try another bottle. She should be having an eye exam soon, so I can't wait to hear how that is coming along. Thank you all so much for your prayers through our ups and downs. We are just beyond thankful for every single one of you. Your support has been such a gift as we could not do this alone. I promise that for the rest of my life, I will always look to give a helping hand just as you all have done for me.

Thank you so very much!

I'm so proud of Kayleigh for the great job she did with the bottle today. I really enjoyed the video, it was a nice ending for my day. I had to laugh after she went to sleep and you all were trying to get her mouth to open so she could take some more bottle. She is such a little cutie, and she is growing like a weed. God Bless Her. I came up on Kayleigh's blog from another link I came across, and wanted to let you know that I am praying for Little Kayleigh and for your family. My preemie miracle baby just came home on July after 85 days in the NICU. He was born at 25 weeks and was 1 pound 15 ounces. Kayleigh is precious and I am going to take the time to sit and read her blog from the start(I have read some of it) so I know what all she has going on and been through. I am sure I can relate to it very much. Remember God is with her and she will be home with you before you know it, I know it may seem like forever but it really isn't. Those days Andrew was in the the NICU were the longest days of my life. Please feel free to e-mail me or my family if you ever need anything.

Way to go Kayleigh!!

You can ask the NICU to move her pacifier up to the next size to help prep her for the bottle.. They usually have 2-3 sizes in paci's! If I remember right, the next size up is the one that is quite a bit closer to the size of the bottle nipple!

She did great!!

I have been a follower of Kayleigh's story since Aimee first started posting on BBC. I have been praying for your family every day, and am amazed at Kayleigh's progress. I wanted to let you know that I have found a website for premature babies, and thought you would be interested in this program:
www.projectseahorse.net
It was so interesting to read about this family's ordeal and to see the other families that have posted their story online. There are so many families out there that have had micro preemies and to read their stories of inspiration is amazing and makes me realize that GOD does have a reason for bringing these tiny children into this life including the amazing Kayleigh and her story of overcoming the odds.
God Bless and Kayleigh, you keep up the good work, we are all praying for you!!!
