9/26/08 - WHAT A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are on cloud nine right now! Aimee and I both are in just disbelief and just plain going crazy with excitement because of how our day went today. Hold on tight because what you are about to hear is going to blow your socks off!

When the day started (Early AM), Kayleigh was removed from her Nitric Oxide because they finally weaned her down over night. Over the next couple hours, she continued to do really well and the doctors decided to take her off the vent. Woo hoo! We were so happy to call up there to find out she was doing so well. We couldn't wait to get up there and hold her and spend some time with her. We just knew that things were starting to look up and we were right.

When we got up there, they had already dropped her flow from 6 liters, to 5, to 4, and then to 3 so they could give her a bottle!!! YES A BOTTLE!!!! We got there at the right time because we were able to feed her 6mls of BREAST MILK ONLY!!!!!!!! Just like we have wanted to do for a while now. Kayleigh did an awesome job feeding and took the whole amount with no desats, bradys or aspirates.

But wait...There is even more!!!! Kayleigh POOPED!!!! She had the biggest poop while feeding that I have ever thought possible. WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!! She had tons of thick (very thick) solid poop and even the contrast from the Upper GI test was visible. Before we started her feedings, she was irritated by the slightest touch, but after her explosion, she was so calm and relaxed like everything was back to normal. All this stress and the girl just needed to poop. I mean, I don't want to be too descriptive, but I would have had a heart attack if I tried crapping out something that big with just a teeny little butthole like hers.

We just called up there to find out she has tolerated two more feedings from the bottle. The feeding right after ours, the nurse used a fast flow nipple on the bottle and it worked so much better than the slow flow we used. I guess the night nurse didn't know the fast flow worked better because she didn't take all of this the third time and had to finish giving it to her through her tube.

We also got some other great news tonight. Kayleigh is 2 GRAMS SHY of the 3 pound mark. Can you believe it???? She has nearly tripled in size since she was born. She weighed in at 1359 grams (2 pounds 15.9 oz). And last but not least, through all the drama this week, I failed to mention that Kayleigh is 3 months old as of the 23rd.

Oh what an unbelievable day it was. I am so amazed by the grace of God and I thank you all for your prayers. God was certainly listening and answered so many prayers because today was a turn of events in so many different areas. Please continue to pray that she will keep moving forward and that this possible pulmonary hypertension won't surface again. We are just blown away with excitement as today felt like one of the happiest days of our lives. Thank you everyone for your support. It truly is an amazing feeling to have people who care so much. We are so blessed.

Off the topic, Aimee and I both have been dieting and doing really well. Aimee has lost almost 5 pounds and I have lost 7 pounds. Aimee has updated her blog, so click here to check it out.

God Bless,

The Freemans :)

Yeah Kayeigh!!
I know this really doesn't have anthing to do with Kayleigh but try to look up Paul Mckenna, he is this guy that has helpped thousands of people loose weight with out dieting with change how you eat and also dont for get Amiee that the more milk you produce for Kayleigh the more your weight is i know it's not that much more but it is definitley more than what it would be if you weren't producing milk for her. But any way he, Paul Mckenna does seminars call I can make you thin and some of the stories are insane the amounts of weight they have lost and not being on a diet , eating what you want just be conciense of how much you eat and many of them are not even exersicing. Let me know if you get a chance to check it out. Keep up the good work Kayleigh. We love you all!

I have heard of Paul Mckenna and I think his outlook on weight loss is great, but portion control is not a factor for Aimee. We have been on a diet before that worked wonders, where we would choose our own foods as long as we stayed under a certain amount of calories. I guess it would be just like Paul's program. The problem was, Aimee ate just as good after Kayleigh came but the weight packed on anyways. So looking at eating clean with healthy food portions was the only way to go (Nutrisystem). The diet has been amazing and Aimee has not lost any of her milk production. I know that milk weighs a certain amount and we took account for that, but it doesn't weigh 20 lbs which is what she has gained. My best guess is that her body has gone through so many changes in the past several months throwing off her metabolism. There is no other explanation because it is not the food she was eating that was the problem. She did it before and had decent weight loss. As I said before, now we are eating the same amount of calories, but cleaner and healthier food through Nutrisystem.

The funny thing is, most people think eating less is a healthy way to lose weight. While that is true to some extent depending on how overweight they are. But, when they lose some of the unwanted weight, they are going to plateu and have to turn to something even more healthy. But, by then people would have to give up all the great foods they have become addicted to and they end up getting frustrated and quitting the diet, therefore gaining all their weight back.

Sorry to preach about dieting, but the word "dieting" should not even be a word. Think of eating anything but healthy foods as a sin. It is like a drug as it unbelievable good and makes you feel awesome for a minute, but then after eating it you feel like crap. It tears up your body from the inside out and it will kill you in time. Aimee said it great in her blog tonight, once you eat clean for a while, unhealthy food starts to taste like crap.

Plus more than anything, Aimee and I want to live longer to see Kayleigh grow old and that is the most important part of it all.

God Bless,

Adam Freeman :)

I'm so glad everything seems to be falling into place for Kayleigh and you all. Praise God! It's kind of ironic that while Kayleigh is trying to gain weight, you guys are trying to lose it! Too bad you can't just transfer it over to her, huh?! That would be sweet...haha.

Hi Aimee and Adam. My name is Carol Ann and I am a mother of two girls from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I found your story through parents.com and was taken in by your amazing, beautiful little Kayleigh. One of my daughters is just nine months older than Kayleigh. What a fighter your precious baby is. She's going to make her mark on this world in big ways. She's already started at just three months. My family is praying for continuous good news like the news of today but we'd like to do something more. Would it be ok if we purchased a gift for Kayleigh off your Babies R Us registry, or would you rather that we wait until Kayleigh goes home? Thanks for sharing your beautiful story. Ya'll seem like a wonderful family. Hang in there. With every beat of her tiny heart Kayleigh Freeman is reaching hearts around the world. What an amazing child you've created.
Best Wishes, The Nadeau Family

That is awesome!! Maybe Kayleigh just needed some japanese food & a trip to Dunkin Donuts (LOL) that would definitely clean her out!! I am so happy for you guys, hopefully we will be heading up that way in the next few days, Lisa still hasn't went into labor & her due date was Thursday. They will schedule to induce (I think) on Tuesday. Kayleigh looks so precious in her little outfits. Love you guys!!

PRAISE GOD!!! I am so happy for you, and for Kayleigh. My little girl is four, and sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get to the point where I'm not concerned about or aware of how many times she pooped. Someday! I'm so proud of Kayleigh. I'm sure she will continue to thrive as she gets to have Mommy's milk and all of your love up close now more that she's getting to be a big girl! We continue to pray for you all!
