11/8/08 - 10:23 - New Sign + New Order + New Project

Aimee and I were given arts and crafts to design a new sign for Kayleigh's bed. Since the other sign with all of our photos on it is at home, we figured we needed to do a whole new one for the CVICU. Aimee made this sign so perfect, by adding the heart :)

The order is to extubate Kayleigh between 1-3 today. WHAT??? That is what I said when I heard it. I figured with the hypertension bout last night, they would give her another day to relax, but the doctor felt like the whole reason she is irritated and having those bouts, are because of that big breathing tube in her throat. Plus, the longer she is on the vent, the less Kayleigh can use her lungs to full potential, causing more problems down the road.

Besides that, Kayleigh is doing good. She had a great night last night and has been alert this morning. We were surprised to see her sats as low and steady as they were with her being so awake. Normally she would get irritated easily and her sats would shoot through the roof. That is a good sign!!!

WOWOWOW---Aimee and I are just sitting here. She is online and I am writing the blog, and our surgeon just pulled her chest tube and her pace maker wires out. Woo hoo! I didn't realize that is what they were doing. WOW, YES!!!! It was actually kind of gross and exciting at the same time. All I saw was our surgeon walking past me to the trashcan with her bloody yucky tube in his hand. Man, I am excited! We are making progress!!!

OKAY - MY NEW PROJECT -
You all know me well and I want nothing more than to make people feel wonderful about the things they do. Aimee and I were discussing the proper way to do this without making anyone single person feel left out. So, I wanted to write a general email to all the people who have helped Kayleigh along the way here. That means, I need to write to the: Neonantologists, Gastrointestinal Doctors, Ophthalmologists, Cardiologists, NICU Nurses, NPCN Nurses, CVICU Nurses and the OB-Gyn Doctors and Nurses.

So THEN, I thought something that would be even much much better and that is to have everyone (INCLUDING YOU!!!), write something nice to all of them at once. It doesn't have to be very long at all! My vision is to copy and paste hundreds of small letters from people ALL over the place, thanking every singe one of them for their help with sweet Kayleigh. You need to add where you are from so they will see how much their help has touched so many lives around the world. PLEASE, I don't beg, but I am begging ALL of you to write something. (Even if it is a few lines). You don't have to include your name, so you can be totally anonymous if you want, but you DO have to write where you are from to really make a big impact.

I think this will be such a great thing to do and it will show these caretakers that they have impacted so many people by doing a WONDERFUL job for Kayleigh. Please take no more than five minutes (Right Now) and write your quick letter in the comment section below. You can title it as "Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker"

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD BLESS,

The Freemans :)

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,

You simply go to work each day to do those things that you were trained to do. You utilize those skills and that information that you studied so hard while in school. But did you know that you are saving a little girl's life? Did you know that your every-day-job is actually a gift from God?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. Sweet little Kayleigh is alive because you go to work each day. Yes, God is at work, and He is using your hands, your skills, your expertise to give this family what they love so much, their daughter.

Thank you.

Dear Kayleighs Caretakers,

My name is Jennifer, and I am from Carlsbad, NM. Let me ask you a fast question. When you were in school getting the training you received, did you ever think that you would be able to heal such a tiny perfect angel and work such miracles? I thank each and every one of you each and every day for the compassion and the dedication that you possess and exert towards this little girl. It is because of your hands and knowledge that God has given you and has helped guide in critical times that she is where she is today. I cannot thank you enough for doing everything you do for her. She is so special to thousands of people.

Thank you,

Jennifer

Adam and Aimee,

I got a bit worried when I read last nights post at 4am. But I try and rest assured that the docs are not worried. It is awesome that they removed her tube and her wires, it just means that she is closer to being recovered. I can't wait for them to extubate her. It scares me yet excites me that she is doing so well. Kayleigh is so amazing. Not to mention that you guys are just awesome parents and I am amazed at how strong you guys are for each other.

This is especially for the OB that held Aimee in the hospital that night.

There were many people who gave up hope on getting Kayleigh to a viable weight, and for some reason you didn't. By the Grace of God, you administered everything at the exact time it needed to be done and you had faith that Kayleigh would be ok. Thank you so much for doing that. Thank you for keeping Aimee that night and monitoring her so closely. We (all of Kayleighs followers) are thankful for you bringing this tiny angel into our lives.

Dear Kayleigh's Caregivers,
Thank you all for being there at times when Kayleigh needed you most. I'm sure that you know how important your job is...medically. But on a more personal level, you will be the faces that Aimee and Adam will remember forever. The nurse that allowed them to hold Kayleigh for the first time, the first time they got to change Kayleigh's diaper, the first time they got to assist with a tube feed, or even the pat on the back or the ear that listened when things weren't going good, you'll always be remembered. The ability to go home at night and rest, knowing that your favorite night nurse has the watch (those nurses are God sent). You are the people that take care of our baby's, God's greatest gifts, when we can't; you'll always be our heros. If in a decade you don't remeber every baby you cared for, parents like Aimee and Adam will always remember you :)

Your care for Kayleigh goes beyond your education and experience. I know that you see many children every day but it is obvious that each child is an individual to you and you care for each and every one of them deep in your heart.

Thank you for everything you have done for this little girl, you have helped to give her a chance at life and a chance to change the lives of many others. Some have found faith again, some have found strength and courage, and some have found even more love for their own children as impossible as that may sound. I know many mothers who hug their children a little tighter because of stories like Kayleigh, and because of you and her own strength, Kayleigh has a story.

Thank you.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
My name is Heather and I live in Wetumpka, Alabama. I first heard about the Freeman's and their sweet little girl from my best friend Amanda in Enterprise, Alabama quite a few months ago. Since then I have kept up with her their lives multiple times a day! Not a day goes by where I don't pray and thank God and all of you there in the hospital for protecting Kayleigh and making her who she is today! I had a preemie on January 4, 2008 and my daughters doctors were not near as helpful or outspoken as y'all are for them. We had no idea from one day to the next what was going on with our daughter. Today she is 10 months old and my husband and I pray everyday that soon Aimee and Adam can take their little princess home and just watch her grow and experience new and exciting things on a daily basis. Y'all have been nothing but helpful and amazing throughout Kayleigh's life and for that I am forever thankful that God has sent such amazing people down to watch over some of his most precious miracles. Thank you for all that you have done and are continuing to do for this family.

Many Thanks,

Dear Kayleigh's caregivers,

My name is Steve and I'm from Greenville, SC. I have known Adam and Aimee for quite awhile now and I consider them to be immediate family. You have all given Adam and Aimee someone to lean on and trust to do all of God's work that we have been praying for and believing would come in some way. There are truly no words that can even begin to describe how much you mean to the Freeman's and to all of us who have been following this story and praying for little Kayleigh and every one of you that has had a hand in taking care of her. I hope you realize that you simply doing your job has made you all a part of this now massive family! I will be forever greatful to all of you and you will all remain in my prayers! God makes miracles happen every single day - but sometimes nobody even notices.... but with Kayleigh, because of her parents willingness to share her story and her life with so many - so that they can have hope if they have a child who is going to be born early - and also just to show the world that miracles really do happen to "regular" people - sometimes God uses someone on Earth to accomplish these miracles and I truly believe that every single Doctor, Nurse, and even Aids and all the respiratory therapists and anyone else who has taken part in the care of Kayleigh have all been helped by the hand of God to bring this baby as far as she has come - including the OB that took the chance to make sure that this pregnancy would get every chance to deliver a baby that would have the best possible chances - every single person deserves a big THANK YOU for being part of the miracle we are witnessing every time we read about Kayleigh - I firmly believe all things happen for a reason, and all these wonderful medical professionals who have helped with the care of Kayleigh and her family in this journey have all been at this place, at this time, to help with this miracle... and it makes you realize that miracles like this do happen, every day, all over the world, gives you a little more faith in God and in everything that happens because of Him... There isn't another profession more deserving of recognition than the men and women who dedicate their lives to these tiniest of patients - giving them a chance at life - and Kayleigh has taken that "chance" that she was giving and has fought her way through everything so far, and will continue to fight - she is also here for a reason... and I for one and thankful to her parents for being kind enough to share her life with us.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,

I could not give Kayleigh an IV or put a breathing tube in, or open her chest to mend her heart no matter how long I was trained. I have grown to love Kayleigh over the past few months, but I realize it takes more than love to do these things that are so difficult and scary, but necessary to save a life.

I am so glad that you do have what it takes. It can't be easy to take responsibility for another's life. It can't be easy to have parents looking to you for all the answers. It can't be easy when there are no answers, and yet you have to show up for work the next day. For the past several months, through Kayleigh's blog, I have seen your work. So to ALL of you - Thank you!!! Kayleigh will always have a special place in my heart and I can't wait to see some pictures of her as she grows into a beautiful young lady.

God Bless You All!!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
My name is Karen and I have been following this miracle story from Austin, TX. You have helped make this miracle story. Your hard work, kindness and love for Kayleigh and her family has been so above and beyond the call. Know that many people that you will never know are grateful you were there for this beautiful baby girl. You have made an amazing impact on so many lives -- your care has saved this little girl over and over and because of that, people all over the world have a renewed sense of faith and hope that the world, and the people in it, truly are good. You have given an amazing gift to so many. Thank you.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers:
I am following Kayleigh's story from Sioux Falls, SD. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and wisdom. Kayleigh will be able to look back on all of this when she gets older. She will be so appreciative of the people who took care of her in the hospital and gave her a chance at life. What a wonderful gift.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,

While I have never actually laid my eyes on this precious girl nor spoken to her family directly or entered the hospital in which she has been staying for the past few months, just knowing that there are people out there like you brings me to tears. Knowing that, were it me, you would treat my child with respect and love and genuine care while also staying composed enough to do your duties and ensure that she was as comfortable as possible - that her parents were as comfortable as possible.

I've been praying that this marvelous, miraculous, angelic child has touched your lives in a way that will last from this world to the next. Whether you believe in God or not, for the past few months, you have stepped in and out of His presence with this family and their gorgeous baby girl.

Again, thank you so much for all you do and may you be blessed beyond REASON. : )
