Aimee and I were given arts and crafts to design a new sign for Kayleigh's bed. Since the other sign with all of our photos on it is at home, we figured we needed to do a whole new one for the CVICU. Aimee made this sign so perfect, by adding the heart :)
The order is to extubate Kayleigh between 1-3 today. WHAT??? That is what I said when I heard it. I figured with the hypertension bout last night, they would give her another day to relax, but the doctor felt like the whole reason she is irritated and having those bouts, are because of that big breathing tube in her throat. Plus, the longer she is on the vent, the less Kayleigh can use her lungs to full potential, causing more problems down the road.
Besides that, Kayleigh is doing good. She had a great night last night and has been alert this morning. We were surprised to see her sats as low and steady as they were with her being so awake. Normally she would get irritated easily and her sats would shoot through the roof. That is a good sign!!!
WOWOWOW---Aimee and I are just sitting here. She is online and I am writing the blog, and our surgeon just pulled her chest tube and her pace maker wires out. Woo hoo! I didn't realize that is what they were doing. WOW, YES!!!! It was actually kind of gross and exciting at the same time. All I saw was our surgeon walking past me to the trashcan with her bloody yucky tube in his hand. Man, I am excited! We are making progress!!!
OKAY - MY NEW PROJECT - You all know me well and I want nothing more than to make people feel wonderful about the things they do. Aimee and I were discussing the proper way to do this without making anyone single person feel left out. So, I wanted to write a general email to all the people who have helped Kayleigh along the way here. That means, I need to write to the: Neonantologists, Gastrointestinal Doctors, Ophthalmologists, Cardiologists, NICU Nurses, NPCN Nurses, CVICU Nurses and the OB-Gyn Doctors and Nurses.
So THEN, I thought something that would be even much much better and that is to have everyone (INCLUDING YOU!!!), write something nice to all of them at once. It doesn't have to be very long at all! My vision is to copy and paste hundreds of small letters from people ALL over the place, thanking every singe one of them for their help with sweet Kayleigh. You need to add where you are from so they will see how much their help has touched so many lives around the world. PLEASE, I don't beg, but I am begging ALL of you to write something. (Even if it is a few lines). You don't have to include your name, so you can be totally anonymous if you want, but you DO have to write where you are from to really make a big impact.
I think this will be such a great thing to do and it will show these caretakers that they have impacted so many people by doing a WONDERFUL job for Kayleigh. Please take no more than five minutes (Right Now) and write your quick letter in the comment section below. You can title it as "Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker"
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS,
The Freemans :)

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
You simply go to work each day to do those things that you were trained to do. You utilize those skills and that information that you studied so hard while in school. But did you know that you are saving a little girl's life? Did you know that your every-day-job is actually a gift from God?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. Sweet little Kayleigh is alive because you go to work each day. Yes, God is at work, and He is using your hands, your skills, your expertise to give this family what they love so much, their daughter.
Thank you.

Dear Kayleighs Caretakers,
My name is Jennifer, and I am from Carlsbad, NM. Let me ask you a fast question. When you were in school getting the training you received, did you ever think that you would be able to heal such a tiny perfect angel and work such miracles? I thank each and every one of you each and every day for the compassion and the dedication that you possess and exert towards this little girl. It is because of your hands and knowledge that God has given you and has helped guide in critical times that she is where she is today. I cannot thank you enough for doing everything you do for her. She is so special to thousands of people.
Thank you,
Jennifer
Adam and Aimee,
I got a bit worried when I read last nights post at 4am. But I try and rest assured that the docs are not worried. It is awesome that they removed her tube and her wires, it just means that she is closer to being recovered. I can't wait for them to extubate her. It scares me yet excites me that she is doing so well. Kayleigh is so amazing. Not to mention that you guys are just awesome parents and I am amazed at how strong you guys are for each other.
Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
I want to thank you for fighting so hard for Kayleigh, Aimee, Adam, Allison and Brandon and every one of us that care so much for Kayleigh. Although I have never met any of you or Kayleigh and her family, you have touched my heart and will never be forgotten. I look forward to following Kayleigh's story and watching what miracles you all are and have been a apart of.
Thank you,

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker's,
My name is Holly and I am from North Canton, OH and I just wanted to thank you so much for taking such great care of Kayleigh! Everyday when I log into her blog, and see what new and exciting (sometimes scary) thing(s) are happening to her each and everyday, I thank God that she is still with Adam and Aimee, Brandon and Allyson. The reason for that is YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! You truly are working miracles EVERY DAY!! THANK YOU!!
Holly from North Canton, OH
This is especially for the OB that held Aimee in the hospital that night.
There were many people who gave up hope on getting Kayleigh to a viable weight, and for some reason you didn't. By the Grace of God, you administered everything at the exact time it needed to be done and you had faith that Kayleigh would be ok. Thank you so much for doing that. Thank you for keeping Aimee that night and monitoring her so closely. We (all of Kayleighs followers) are thankful for you bringing this tiny angel into our lives.
Jennifer

As a current "NICU mom" I want to say thank you for the extraordinary lengths you have gone to help make Kayleigh healthy! She is such a fighter!! She has been in very good hands. They are even asking me if I've seen updates on her surgeries! Again, thank you for taking such good care of this sweet little gift from God and her sweet family!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
My name is Jennifer from California and I am a former NICU mom. Kayleigh is doing such an amazing job at getting better and the care you all have provided to her is a huge part of that. I visit stories of preemies online as part of the healing process for myself. This is how I came across Kayleigh's story. Seeing the dedication of her family and the caretakers has touched me and I will forever remember this family. It is such an inspiring story and you were all a part of it!!! Thank you for loving all the babies you care for each day. The families of these babies cannot repay you enough.

My name is Cherilynn and I am from Prince George, British Columbia, Canada.
I just wanted to thank you so very much for all that you have done for this sweet little girl. I started reading her blog in July and have been praying for her, her family, and you ever since. Thank you for your knowledge and your incredible support you've given Aimee & Adam, even when the prognosis didn't look good. You are truly a miracle worker ... God has used your knowledge and guided you to be able to help this sweet little girl. I pray that he will continue to inspire, challenge and guide you throughout your career.
With sincerest thanks,
Cherilynn
Dear Kayleigh's Caregivers,
Thank you all for being there at times when Kayleigh needed you most. I'm sure that you know how important your job is...medically. But on a more personal level, you will be the faces that Aimee and Adam will remember forever. The nurse that allowed them to hold Kayleigh for the first time, the first time they got to change Kayleigh's diaper, the first time they got to assist with a tube feed, or even the pat on the back or the ear that listened when things weren't going good, you'll always be remembered. The ability to go home at night and rest, knowing that your favorite night nurse has the watch (those nurses are God sent). You are the people that take care of our baby's, God's greatest gifts, when we can't; you'll always be our heros. If in a decade you don't remeber every baby you cared for, parents like Aimee and Adam will always remember you :)

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
I want to express the gratitude that I feel when I read this blog everyday. Kayleigh is an amazing fighter, but without you she wouldn't know quite what to fight through. She knows she is fighting FOR her place in the world her family and for herself but What she is fighting for comes from all of you. When you present the problem she sits back and contemplates how she will do this. So Thank You for taking the time to care for her and love her and for helping her parents along the way. You are truly gifted people. From Yucaipa, CA
Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers:

We understand all too well the hard work you all do and thank you so much for making what is a difficult time a little easier for special babies like Kayleigh and their families.
Thank you for working, praying and believing that every life counts and for fighting for just that. Kayleigh and our children are so very lucky to have you all.

I am Wendy from Long Grove, IL and our Megan just spent 11 days in NICU and what struck me is the love and compassion Megan's nurses gave her during her stay.
For Kayleigh I give Megan a kiss everyday in hopes that Kayleigh will be able to kiss her caretakers one day as a big thank you.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
My name is Sonya and I am writing from western MA. I have followed Kayleighs story from the begining and I want to take a moment to thank you for all of the wonderful things you have done for this precious little angel.
Your care for Kayleigh goes beyond your education and experience. I know that you see many children every day but it is obvious that each child is an individual to you and you care for each and every one of them deep in your heart.
Thank you for everything you have done for this little girl, you have helped to give her a chance at life and a chance to change the lives of many others. Some have found faith again, some have found strength and courage, and some have found even more love for their own children as impossible as that may sound. I know many mothers who hug their children a little tighter because of stories like Kayleigh, and because of you and her own strength, Kayleigh has a story.
Thank you.
Sonya and my son Tyler from MA.

Thank you for taking such good care of Kayleigh. You are her guardian angels. Every gentle hand that touched her, every loving caress that gave her comfort, has left a lifelong imprint on her. And someday, when she is able to thank you herself, you will truly realize the miracle you were a part of. I thank God that there are people like you on this earth. You are God's helpers :)

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
My name is Heather and I live in Wetumpka, Alabama. I first heard about the Freeman's and their sweet little girl from my best friend Amanda in Enterprise, Alabama quite a few months ago. Since then I have kept up with her their lives multiple times a day! Not a day goes by where I don't pray and thank God and all of you there in the hospital for protecting Kayleigh and making her who she is today! I had a preemie on January 4, 2008 and my daughters doctors were not near as helpful or outspoken as y'all are for them. We had no idea from one day to the next what was going on with our daughter. Today she is 10 months old and my husband and I pray everyday that soon Aimee and Adam can take their little princess home and just watch her grow and experience new and exciting things on a daily basis. Y'all have been nothing but helpful and amazing throughout Kayleigh's life and for that I am forever thankful that God has sent such amazing people down to watch over some of his most precious miracles. Thank you for all that you have done and are continuing to do for this family.
Many Thanks,
Heather, Joseph, & Bailey Alyse Woollard
WOW!! What great progress your little girl has had! I'm so happy that they were able to take some tubes out today, that's amazing! Hopefully she will do so much better without them. Everyday is one step closer to bringing her home :0) Keep your chin up, she's a strong little fighter you got there!
Dear Kayleigh's caregivers,
My name is Steve and I'm from Greenville, SC. I have known Adam and Aimee for quite awhile now and I consider them to be immediate family. You have all given Adam and Aimee someone to lean on and trust to do all of God's work that we have been praying for and believing would come in some way. There are truly no words that can even begin to describe how much you mean to the Freeman's and to all of us who have been following this story and praying for little Kayleigh and every one of you that has had a hand in taking care of her. I hope you realize that you simply doing your job has made you all a part of this now massive family! I will be forever greatful to all of you and you will all remain in my prayers! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
Thank you for all the wonderful care and support you have given Kayleigh and her family. I check Kayleigh's progress 2 and 3 times a day, and she has become such a huge part of my daily life. Even my children ask about Kayleigh's progress every night when they see me on the computer. She has touched our lives so much. Kayleigh has a tremendous support system! We love her and pray for her many times a day. She is a VERY SPECIAL little girl. Thank you for everything that all of you have done to keep her fighting!
We love all of you!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
I am Laura from Austin, Texas, and I wanted to say a big Texas "THANK YOU" for taking such amazing care of Miss Kayleigh. You have done so much in addition to giving this precious little girl the chance to live a beautiful life with her amazing family. You have lent your hand and hearts and been a part of a something that is so much bigger. Kayleigh's story - her trials, tribulations, and triumphs - have restored my hope and faith in God's grace. Against all odds, this little girl has persevered thanks in large part to your unbelievable talent, hard work, and most importantly - your heart and dedication. So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to THANK YOU for everything that you do and for all that you continue to do.
Many heartfelt thanks,
Laura

To All of Kayleighs Staff...
I've been watching Kayleigh since her mom wrote in fear asking for anyone with similar experiences. My heart went out to her and her family as my pregnancy was so similar to Aimee's (much different, but much the same)..
Thank You for sharing your skills and allowing Kayleigh the fighting chance that she has been given.. The chance to be a medical miracle...

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker:

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
I am Lindsey, the mom to a beautiful baby boy named Logan. He was a premie like Kayleigh! Although his stay in the NICU wasn't very long we learned quickly how the nurses and doctors are the best thing next to God. I swear you are there as much for the parents hearts, minds and health as you are for the babies! Thank you very much for watching over Kayliegh, Aimee and Adam. They are truly blessed to have such great and loving people taking care of their little one. I will forever be greatful to the helping hands that my son had as he entered this world and I know the Freeman family will be forever greatful to you!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful, loving and expert care that you give to Kayleigh every day. We all cannot wait for the day that she comes home a healthy and happy, beautiful baby girl, and none of this would be possible without each of you providing her with your tender touch and concern each day. As a friend of her parents, I just wanted you to know how appreciated each of you are, by both Kayleigh's family and their new friends around the world who are praying for her. Thank you so much.
Kayleigh's Caretakers:
It has been amazing to see the progression of this little one's life over the past few months. I found out about Kayleigh through the November 2008 BabyCenter Board. I do not personally know the Freeman family, but your support, expertise, and willingness to commit to saving a life speaks volumes about each of you individually! God bless you all!
Ebonee from Kent, Ohio
God makes miracles happen every single day - but sometimes nobody even notices.... but with Kayleigh, because of her parents willingness to share her story and her life with so many - so that they can have hope if they have a child who is going to be born early - and also just to show the world that miracles really do happen to "regular" people - sometimes God uses someone on Earth to accomplish these miracles and I truly believe that every single Doctor, Nurse, and even Aids and all the respiratory therapists and anyone else who has taken part in the care of Kayleigh have all been helped by the hand of God to bring this baby as far as she has come - including the OB that took the chance to make sure that this pregnancy would get every chance to deliver a baby that would have the best possible chances - every single person deserves a big THANK YOU for being part of the miracle we are witnessing every time we read about Kayleigh - I firmly believe all things happen for a reason, and all these wonderful medical professionals who have helped with the care of Kayleigh and her family in this journey have all been at this place, at this time, to help with this miracle... and it makes you realize that miracles like this do happen, every day, all over the world, gives you a little more faith in God and in everything that happens because of Him... There isn't another profession more deserving of recognition than the men and women who dedicate their lives to these tiniest of patients - giving them a chance at life - and Kayleigh has taken that "chance" that she was giving and has fought her way through everything so far, and will continue to fight - she is also here for a reason... and I for one and thankful to her parents for being kind enough to share her life with us.
Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
I have never met the Freemans, but I have prayed with them, cried with them, held my breath with them and rejoiced with them since I read Aimee's first post on Babycenter. I am so thankful to them for sharing their story and thankful to YOU for all that you have done to care for sweet Kayleigh. I have prayed for you often- Gad has certainly worked a miracle through you! I am in awe.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretaker,
I could not give Kayleigh an IV or put a breathing tube in, or open her chest to mend her heart no matter how long I was trained. I have grown to love Kayleigh over the past few months, but I realize it takes more than love to do these things that are so difficult and scary, but necessary to save a life.
I am so glad that you do have what it takes. It can't be easy to take responsibility for another's life. It can't be easy to have parents looking to you for all the answers. It can't be easy when there are no answers, and yet you have to show up for work the next day. For the past several months, through Kayleigh's blog, I have seen your work. I thank you for your part in the miracles that I have witnessed through little Kayleigh. Her story has touched me deeply and I believe it will have a happy ending.

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers...
I'm Sarah from Northern NY. I'm a mom to a 33 weeker. I don't know Kayleigh or her parents but I check on them everyday and will never forget them. Without you guys and all you have done, I don't even want to think about the direction this life would have taken. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all you do, not just for Kayleigh but for all the other babies and parents that you devote your careers to day in and day out! You all mean the world to me!
Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
I'm Michele from Honolulu, Hawaii. I have been following the Freeman's story when Aimee was asking for prayers for Kayleigh on Baby Center. Even though I have never met the Freeman's, I wanted to let you know how special Kayleigh is to us. Thank you so much for all of the care and love you bring to your job everyday. Because of your hard work, you touch so many lives and show so many people what is possible.
Thank you so much for all the work you do!
Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
I have been watching along with many others the progress that Kayleigh has made. She is an incredible little girl and the help and support that you have given her and her family is a true blessing.
After 33 days in the NICU in Omaha, Nebraska, our experiences are minuscule in comparison. As a 15 month old, he is doing well and I am so inspired by our road of prematurity that I am volunteering locally and creating a website of resources for people like Amiee and Adam.
I hope that the journey for the Freeman's continues to be one of hope, and joy. Thank you again for your continuous care of Kayleigh.
Sincerely, Jessica Williams
Dear Kaleigh's Caretakers,
I also wanted to add my admiration and gratitude, for your knowledge and dedication to such a special group of children. Most importantly your ability to care and communicate with the families creates a trusting relationship with parents and babies that is so important. I am sure Adam and Aimee can attest to this.
With your care, Kayleigh's story has given hope to so many preemie families literally around the world. What a wonderful gift you given.
Thank You, Adam and Aimee for sharing her story. Can't wait for the next chapter, Kayleighs Homecoming!

To Kayleigh's wonderful caretaker,
Like many of you, I've never met the Freeman's but feel a special love connection to the Freeman family. They are so blessed to have so many people in God's family praying for their precious little girl. Kayleigh is a fighter and continues to show everyone how strong of a little girl she really is. Without the skillful hands of so many people touching Kayleigh's life she wouldn't be such a strong little girl. Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
Thank you all for your vigilant watch over little Kayleigh. If you haven't heard or read what her parents were originally told about her prognosis, you don't truly know the magnitude of your service and her progress. I have followed the Freeman story since Aimee's first heartbreaking post on BBC and it is nothing short of a hundred miracles to see where she is now. Your gifts have touched far more than this family and appreciated across the country (and probably the world).
Most sincerely,

Dear Kayleigh's Caregivers,
Thank you so much for all of the care you have given Kayleigh. I started following Kayleigh's story a little after her birth. The first thing I do in the morning is check her progress. It is because of all of you that I was able to smile after reading her daily updates. Yes there were some scary moments but again because of you the tears turned in to smiles. So to ALL of you - Thank you!!! Kayleigh will always have a special place in my heart and I can't wait to see some pictures of her as she grows into a beautiful young lady.
God Bless You All!!

Dear Kayleigh's Caretakers,
While I have never actually laid my eyes on this precious girl nor spoken to her family directly or entered the hospital in which she has been staying for the past few months, just knowing that there are people out there like you brings me to tears. Knowing that, were it me, you would treat my child with respect and love and genuine care while also staying composed enough to do your duties and ensure that she was as comfortable as possible - that her parents were as comfortable as possible.
I've been praying that this marvelous, miraculous, angelic child has touched your lives in a way that will last from this world to the next. Whether you believe in God or not, for the past few months, you have stepped in and out of His presence with this family and their gorgeous baby girl.
Again, thank you so much for all you do and may you be blessed beyond REASON. : )
