2/16/09 - One Blessed Dad!!!

Ha! I was having too much fun with the camera.

First of all, I wanted to let everyone know that the NBC News Affiliate (WXII Channel 12) will be airing our story Wednesday night at 5pm est. They will be putting the feed on the website for all of those who are not local to the Winston Salem/Greensboro area. We are one of those people, so they are going to mail me a DVD of the story and I will also post it to the blog when it comes in.

Kayleigh has been doing awesome over the past couple days. She has gone up on her feeds and her belly is not so bloated anymore. Yesterday, she was enjoying our company with tons and tons of kisses. It was perfect as every time we would give her some smooches, it was almost as if she was closing her mouth and puckering up for us. She is so sweet when she is not in any kind of pain or discomfort, so we are overly excited about her progress right now. The stress level is almost instantly lifted and we get to enjoy spending time with her like normal parents should. It is unfortunate that we haven't had many days like these and the ones we did, were short lived and practically forgotten.

Speaking of great days and spending time with our children, a lot of you asked how Brandon and Allyson are doing through all of this. From the outside in, I can imagine thinking "How do Adam and Aimee have enough time in a day for everything that is going on in their lives, especially time for Brandon and Allyson?" Well, we don't have all the time in the world! But, with the time we do have, our major focus is to be the best parents we possibly can to each of our children on a daily basis.

Our schedule goes a little something like this: We wake up around 7:00am and work until we have to take the kids to school at 9:00. We then come back and work some or go straight to the hospital until we have to pick the kids up from school at 3:45. We then work some more, do homework then dinner. After dinner, we give the kids full attention to do whatever they want. Whether it is board games, TV shows, a movie, computer games, or video games. No matter what it is, we have a blast and we make the best of our time together so they feel as they are 100% loved. When they go to bed around 10:00, Aimee and I work, blog or spend some time with each other until 3 in the morning every single night.

They are handling this whole situation like champs. Honestly, their lives have not changed one single bit. The hard part is they are not able to go see Kayleigh because of RSV season and that has been going on since September. They saw her once passing in the hall as they took Kayleigh to the Cath lab, but then again, that has been a while now too. Every time they hear she is doing rough, they are sad because they see us sad. Although, they are very excited to hear when Kayleigh is close to coming home. Hopefully the next time around their hopes aren't shattered. They think it is the coolest thing when we talk about having 24 hour nursing care in the home, but they are just kids and I am jealous I don't look at the world the same way they do.

Overall, they both are doing amazing. Allyson made the A-B Honor Roll and Brandon received Wolf of the Day over 5 times, which rewarded him with his handprint on the school hallway wall. They are both two amazing children and life is such a wonderful experience, just watching them grow in to their own personalities that continue to make us die with laughter every single day. I can't say enough good things about them, but I do know for sure that I am One Blessed Dad to have a family like this.

When Kayleigh decides to finally make the journey home to our house, we have an idea that I wanted to ask your opinion about. I am planning on creating a whole different blog that will allow you all to continue to follow Kayleigh's journey at home, but also follow our family as well. We will leave the hospital journey (old blog) and start the home journey (new blog) from then on. This will allow Kayleigh's story to remain just as it is on her blog for those who want to learn all about the NICU experience to educate themselves and help give them hope through their own journey's. The final post (When she comes home) will direct everyone with a link to the new site if they want to continue following in her story along with the rest of us. What are your thoughts about that? Would you care to hear about our crazy family? LOL

If you think it is a good idea, we need some help!!!! We can't think of a blog title! So, I am asking for EVERYONE to pitch in their ideas for our family blog title and we will award the person with the best idea with a huge.........uummmmm..........A huge...........and I mean a huuuuuuuuuugggggeeeeeee..........................A VERY HUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE.........Thank you :)

God Bless,

I definitely like the idea of a continuation story of life at home. We have all gotten too close to Kayleigh and you guys to just stop reading about your lives now! Hmmm, a name. I will think on that and get back to you.

I can Not believe how much she has progressed in the last couple of days it is truly amazing. And yes By looking at those Pictures you are not only one truly blessed dad But also one very happy, excited, and overjoyed and loved Daddy. and that is just a portion of what I see in those Pictures. She truly looks amazing, I love how she is handing out the kisses and how she is reaching for your face and touching toys and playing it truly is an amazing site to see. I said once before and I will say it again day by day one day at a time she will progress better and better and you guys will get thru all the little hurdles and before you know it you will be bringing that precious little angel girl home where she belongs. I feel so Bad that Brandon & Allyson are not able to see her right now that really is heartbreaking and I know it must be so tough for them, Have you thought about doing some video taping while visiting Kayleigh? so they can feel like they were there with her and they will have videos to watch when they miss her the most , Just a thought . As far as the idea of the Blog for once she goes home and migrating this one into a home journey for Kayleigh I LOVE IT !!!!! I am sure I can speak for all of us here we have followed you thus far and once you take that little angel home of course we are ALL going to want to know how she is , how you are ALL doing and how things are going with Kayleigh at home. WE DO NOT want this blog to end when she leaves the hospital, that would just be wrong. We would all be wondering how you ALL are doing and getting along, SO YES it needs to continue. As far as a name I don't have any ideas right this minute But I will think about it and I will post a few when I get some good ideas... Love to you all and Give that beautiful baby girl kisses & hugs .

I am crying tears of happiness. She looks beautiful and so happy to be grabbing at daddy. Every time I read your blog, I say a prayer for all of you and I am so happy that Kayleigh is doing so well. I have to say that I haven't been following for too long (maybe a few months), but I am completely attached to your family, and would love the blog to continue. I am a physical therapist (used to do pediatric PT) and would love to see her progress. She is going to soar. I just know it...I can see it in her face. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.

I'd absolutely love to keep reading! Last night I stayed up a while and caught myself up since I just found this blog yesterday. No ideas for a blog name yet... but if one pops in my head, I'll be sure to share it with you guys :)

Wow! I do not know where to begin. You guys have AMAZING strength! I found your blog through someone else's blog tonight and I have cried and smiled and reflected on my own 2 children. We too spent time in the NICU at CMC but not for near the amount of time that you guys have been there. Our twins were born at 29 weeks and are now 6 years old! I noticed several times you spoke of losing hair and in general aging about 10 years - my husband and I look at pictures of us before and after our "hospital stay" and boy did we age!! You guys are great and I will continue to follow your blog. I pray that your baby girl continues to get stronger and stronger each day so you will be able to take her home and love her to pieces! God Bless you and your family.

Hi! I just started reading your blog about a week ago and this is my first time commenting. I've read every single entry from the time Kayleigh was born. Wow, what a journey she (and the rest of you) have all been through since June.

I'm the mom of 3 preemies myself ~ Zachary Logan (23 weeks 4 days) was born in June '02 and sadly passed away 11 days after his birth. Ryan Matthew (23 weeks 5 days) was born in August '03 and spent 6 months in the NICU and had a lot of obstacles to overcome (intestinal blockage resulting in an ileostomy for 4 months, PDA surgery, R.O.P. in both eyes, etc.). Brooke Elizabeth (27 weeks 4 days) will be one year old next month and had a wonderfully uneventful NICU stay and came home at 35 weeks gestation.

Like I mentioned, Ryan had many complications during his 6 month stay. We almost lost him when he was one month old because he was SO, SO sick from the bowel obstruction. At that time, he was transferred to a hospital 2 hours away from home, which made the next 5 months even harder. I did keep little notes of his progress on a calendar while he was in the NICU, but I really wish I would have kept some type of journal, like you did with this blog.

I think this blog is so fantastic and will be so great for her (and you) to look back at some day and remember all she went through to get home with her family where she belongs. I think it is a great idea to keep this blog separate and then start a new blog. I would love to keep reading about you all and I think this blog will be wonderful for new parents of preemies to have to read.

If you would like to see some NICU pictures of Ryan, you could hop over to my blog and check out this past Friday's post. It was our 5 year anniversary of bringing him home from the NICU, so I did a little reminiscing : ).

I've been praying for Kayleigh ever since I first read about her and I will continue to do so!

How about Homeward Bound or Agape? I also like the Faithful Freemans mentioned above. I'm no good with this, but I'll ask my students today and I'm sure they'll have MANY suggestions!

Kayleigh looks great! Praise God! I’m so happy for you guys. She is really looking good. How exciting to be able to interact with her like that. These are such wonderful pictures. I am grinning from ear to ear for you guys. Praying Kayleigh keeps getting better with each day. God bless your family!

I feel like I have been waiting for this post since I started following your blog in November. It absolutely warms my heart to see these photos. She is doing so well. The joy in your eyes is so apparent and lovely to see. I pray for Kayleigh every night and cannot wait for the day when your blog says, "Kayleigh is HOME!"

I love the idea of a blog about the whole family! This phase of life will be over, but always accessible for memories. What an awesome idea!

How in the world would this Bama girl not follow you all once you are home? How would we get through the day w/o our update from you guys? You definitely HAVE to continue on blogging once ya'll get home. Maybe use the name 'From Hospital to Home' - something like that. I did wonder a/b how you and Aimee keep up w/ everything on a daily basis. Thanks for the insight into your daily lives. It clears things up for most of us I'm sure. We will continue to pray for all 5 of you. God bless!!!

Wow, I cannot get over how great Kayleigh looks. She has come along way in the last few weeks. I follow your blog everyday and continue to keep your family in my prayers. I would love to see a separate blog set up on the next chapter of her life. As far as a name maybe "Journey Home" or "Home Sweet Home" or "There's No Place Like Home", "Home is Where Kayleigh Is" or maybe something incorporating all 3 kids (still thinking on that one)

I've never commented, but I have been following your blog for a few months now. I really enjoy watching Kaileigh grow stronger and into such a beautiful little girl!

You are both wonderful parents and I keep praying for your family. You are both so full of love and strenght.

I wish you all the best and I can't wait for Kaileigh to go home!

Take care!

Adam - I am so excited that Kayleigh is doing so awesome. You deffinitely need to do a Freeman Blog. HOw about "Free at Last thank God Almighty the Freeman Family is Free at Last" Okay maybe that is too long how about "Home where we belong" I am not sure I will think more about it. We love you all and thank you for sharing more pictures of our precious Kayleigh.

Love Always. Katie

In suggestion to your BLOGS.... I think you change your signature and your URL on THIS blog from "The Freemans" and make that the name of your NEW BLOG....then call this blog with a new URL name and signature "Its A Kayleighs World".blogspot.com or some other cute Blog name for hers (this one).

Good Luck.

I would love to hear about Kayleigh after she goes home and it would be really exciting to hear how everyone adjusts and how everyone else is handling the joys and craziness of have her home and the 24 hour nursing. I say for the title just keep it simple like the Freeman Family Blog or Our Home Life or something on that order. Well glad to hear the good news and I love the pictures!! God Bless

Okay so first off Kayleigh looks so happy and you look like a dad should with their baby. Happy and almost like you don't have a care in the world. (Although we all know better!)

Okay, I'm not very creative but for a new website name what about "forever faithful and grateful." Don't know just a thought. Or "Look at at our family now--complete at home!"

I am so glad that she is looking so well and making such great progress. It is amazing.

I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers!

Love the pics...you all are such an incredible family...love that the kids are doing so well but I know they wish they could see their baby sister more. Praying for a quick trip home so they can see her whenever they like.

I didn't read all of the suggestions, so my apologies if this has already been suggested, but how about simply "The Freemans at Home"?

Simple, to the point, and for those who have been following along, those words convey HUGE meaning.

I definitely want to keep up with sweet Kayleigh and the rest of you! And I think it would be GREAT to start a new blog to do that!!

What about something along the lines of: The Freemans:On Our Way Home...not only to signify going home from the hospital, but also with the idea of being on the journey to our home in heaven.

I dunno...I like something along those lines. I have never been huge into the "alliteration" titles. : )

Good luck naming it! I think that is the hardest part of a blog!! But I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

I am so glad to hear that Kayleigh is doing so good. I pray for her all of the time.

As far as ideas for the family blog, I think you could go for The Fabulous Freemans, as I am sure that you will all being doing and feeling fabulous when Kayleigh gets to come home!!

I hope things keep going in the right direction for you all!!

Just popped into my head...
What about "Breathing Room" for the blog title. With the trach and you guys sharing your lives with us, not to mention you've shared Kayleigh's entire life with NICU nurses and doctors...and us. At least when you're home you'll have some "breathing room"!

Hi Adam and Aimee and Family. She looks so good. I loved the video. It should encourage so many that will face the same road that your are on now. It is so unselfish of you to share your personal story with others. Hope you are having "One Good Day After Another" which could be the title of a blog in the future. Whatever you choose will be fine as long as we get to see updates of Little Miss Kayleigh. Huggs and Kisses to you all, Darrell

You've probably already picked a name, but I just found your site. I would call your continuation blog - The Freemans At Last (Thank God Almighty) - a play on the I Have a Dream speech.

OMG!! I live in Winston-Salem I have a two year old by the name of Madison. She was born 31 weeks has had 5 surgeries and is going for her 6th surgery 3-13-09. She stayed in the hospital for six months not to mention she has a tract. The doctors could not believe she made it thus far. All the advice I can give you is to never give up. Keep the faith in God he will give you peace and strength in the time of trouble. Always remeber your daughter is a gift and a miracle from god. When it feels like the world is on your shoulders just ask the lord to give you strength and I promise you he will. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. May god's blessens be apon your family.
