5/5/09 - A Family Again

Aimee and I almost forgot what it felt like to have a smile on our faces until Allyson and Brandon were able to spend some time with Kayleigh today after waiting for so long. August was the last time they saw her due to RSV season(horrible lung disease) prevented children in the NICU.

The hospital allowed Kayleigh to be moved to a sleep-in room where we could lounge around with her on a bed and allow the kids to hold her and love on her. It was a magical moment and it felt so good to be a family again. It is very sad to say, but this was only our second chance to have a family photo taken together.

I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we enjoyed living them.

God Bless,

I can't even put into words the impact your family has had on mine. We have 4 girls ...1st 3 were planned by us...4th by the grace of God. The 4th baby was not expected and I will be honest, I wasn't sure how were going to manage. My husband and permanently taken care of business but just by chance we got pregnant the day or two before surgery. I was due around the same time Aimee was with Kayleigh. I thought I appreciated and cherished my children but my new daughter along with my 3 other girls has taught me so much more. Children are a gift and should be treated as such.
My two older girls Emma-Deane (9) & Gracelynn (6 1/2) pray for you every night. They ask every morning as part of their routine if I have checked on you yet. This morning was no different other than they must have heard Kayleighs music and came barreling downstairs to see. They were so excited to see the kids with Kayleigh.

The girls want to fly from Canada to you....just to hug you and meet your family. They want to be friends with your children. You have become part of our family and life. The impact is so huge....thank-you so much. My girls have matured so much since learning a new appreciation for life.

We are the ones that sent you the onesies with the shamrock.....Emma was so proud she found preemie clothes but she is happier that Kayleigh is chubby now!!! I bet that was not a word in your thoughts of her months ago...she has come so far.

Your family is beautiful inside and out!!!!

God Bless,
Kevin, Nicole, Emma-Deane, Gracelynn, Lexingtn & Danikah Wood

I've been following Kayleigh's story since right after she was born. I haven't commented lately, but wanted to say thank you for sharing these pictures. My heart is broken for your family and there are tears rolling down my cheeks as I type this, but I'm so glad you had this time together. I know there isn't anything that even another parent can say to ease your pain, but I hope you find comfort in visions of your precious little girl running w/ Jesus in Heaven. She's amazing and has accomplished more in her short life than most adults. I hug my little boy tighter at night and play with him more meaningful because of Kayleigh.
You're always in our prayers.

Beautiful pictures of your loving family. so happy you were able to make those memories together.

I was reading through your comments however, and am horrified at the poster who suggested you consult an attorney. I can't believe the ignorance of some people -- don't they realize that our litigious society is the reason our insurance premiums are so high? My child spent time in the NICU too and I know how loving and selfless the NICU doctors and nurses are. They all truly go above and beyond for all the babies, even the most "hopeless" cases. Sure they are human and they may make a mistake or perhaps miscommunicate, especially with the more complicated cases involving many different doctors, but surely you do not believe that Kayleigh's brain injury was caused by negligence!

I've been reading your blog for months and I know that the problems Kayleigh has are numerous and serious, affecting many different organ systems -- and as you know, she wasn't even supposed to survive the pregnancy. The fact that she has lived for 10 months given all her medical issues, is a testament not only to God and your family but also to the people in the hospital who have cared for her all these months. Suing the hospital would only serve to make doctors even more cautious about bringing children like Kayleigh into the world. If NICU doctors are sued everytime one of these very sick children passes away there will soon be no more NICUs, no more doctors willing to take the risk to care for and operate on these kids. I know you know this but I am posting this for the benefit of some posters who don't seem to understand.

Thoughts and prayers with you and your beautiful family in the difficult days ahead.

How beautiful, I am so excited that the kids got to be with her. I am so sorry it has taken so long. Sidney got synagsis shots to help prevent RSV, so I know all of those aweful restrictions. Love You all.

Oh my, those pictures are priceless! What an absolutely beautiful family!

Adam, I have a question for you about Kayleigh. I know you posted she was able to breathe on her own, so I was just wondering if she's doing that or if she's still on the vent full-time?

Very wonderful pictures. THANK YOU SO MUCH. My favorite is the one of allyson looking over her glasses at Kayleigh and kayleigh awake. That one really brought me to tears.

I feel bad for the ones leaving bad comments. Maybe Aimee does her own nails, I do mine and don't spend a thing. We are not the ones to judge people. Thats gods words.

So if you don't have nothing nice to say about this miracle please keep it off here. Again, we are not the ones to Judge people, God is our Judge.

Thank you again, and im sorry that just got me a little when I read that comment.

Still Praying a lot. But, will be praying all day Friday on National day of prayer. I am leaving the baby and 3 year old in the daycare at church.

Fantastic, you have a sleep in room and now can read the healing words of the Bible out loud in Kayleigh's room. The family in my church that read to their 2 pound preemie brought her home a lot sooner than expected. Love you all

God Bless Baby Kayleigh and your entire family, too.

I am so glad that you were able to feel your readers' generosity. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to help out in such a small (and seemingly insignificant way). Prayers.
